Looking into previous threads 1800s boxing I see a lot of guys here rate McCaffrey in the top 5-10 particularly in the 1880s. His resume is basically: draws Cleary, Flatlined by Gilmore, loss to Gus Lambert, his best career win in a 4 round DEC vs Charlie Mitchell, barely making it to the end of a 7 round fight with Sullivan (tail end of his prime at best), losing to MW GOAT Dempsey at the time, then finally stopped by Corbett. Anything after 1890 isn't worth mentioning. How is this dude so highly regarded when he has 1 notable win that doesn't really prove much considering it was a 4 rounder?
Lmao, how the hell did that guy get big fights like Kilrain, Mitchell, dom, and cleary twice in the span of a year. He basically speed ran Sullivans best opponents
He should have won them all. He also fought another 1300+ bouts. I am currently writing a 7 part series on him. The Prussian may have been our greatest pugilist.
