I watch this documentary years ago and came across it on YouTube. If you haven't seen it check it out: 'Boxing In & Out of the Ring - Boxing's Dark Side' http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=anqEMJlGEkA&feature=related Just fast forward the first bit if you don't enjoy watching LL getting flattened. It documents the 'poli-tricks' behind the scenes after first Lewis-Rahman in 2001. Gives a insight into the workings and history of corruption in boxing and the IBF ratings scandal. Nice interview with William Guthrie. You've gotta feel sorry for Cedric Cushner who gets completely screwed when Don King seduces Rahman away from him. It also shows what a low-life King is and how much power he used to hold. Rahman came across as a greedy and ungrateful *****. But you gotta like King's style $200k cash in a duffle bag and a cheque for $5 million (advance) will sway a lot of people. I recall Rahman was offered a multi-fight deal with HBO (I believe worth $25m, even if he lost to LL in a rematch). That was the deal Cushner wanted for him. Instead Rahman jumped to King and signed a one-off deal for the rematch. His purse was $10m, he got starched and King started serenading LL. Funniest part is the 'IBF ratings committee'. I've now got this image of Oscar at Ring HQ with some fellow cronie in a back room sat round a table counting cash going "HHmm, where do I rank myself today? Wonder what old Fuzzy Wuzzy's up to?" If you've seen it, what did you think? Do you feel any sympathy at all for Cushner or Rahman?
I watched this just after it was made, and i feel so bad for Cedric, he never seemed to make the cash Don has over the years and as soon as he gets someone who makes some amazing headlines and breaks the bigtime, he walks when lured by king, Cedric was so hard done to , especially when his other big name (Ike Ibeabuchi) made the headlines for other reasons , just as he started to make massive noise....Rahman has no integrity , and is just another greedy *******.....
I can't watch this whole thing right now but watched the first few minutes and it looks really interesting. I'll def check it out later. Thanks for posting! :good:good
