    1. If Don king was a crook, how come he's not in jail?

    2. Boxing was alive and well when king was promoting fights. These days boxing is like an abandoned neighborhood, especially the heavyweight division.

    3. King made a lot of money for all his fighters. Fighters think they got screwed because they don't understand the business of boxing. They need to understand it's a BUSINESS. King is not your friend, he's your PROMOTER...and when you lose, he gets with the guy who WON. That's how BUSINESS works.

    4. Really, it was the jealous white managers and boxing writers who hated king for being a successful black boxing manager and promoter in a business that had ALWAYS been dominated by white men. They are the ones who called him a criminal and a crook. In reality, it was white managers and promoters who ripped off Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis and practically ever great black fighter before king came along.

No doubt that Don King is a crooked dude.
He'd a fast thinking, fast talking dude from the hood who is intelligent as he is ruthless.

Don King shows exactly how smart he is but not only promoting some of the biggest fights in boxing history for most of the top ATG fighters, but Don King also provides us with a valuable life lesson that a formal education applied to a privileged person will still that person more incompetent than a unprivileged person with a larger supply of determination and ambition.
Although Don King's primary rival Bi-Polar Bob Arum belongs to a privileged group and obtained a degree of Law from Ivy league Harvard University, this degree and privilege never helped Arum from constantly being out thought, out manoeuvred and out promoted by Don King.

Today, the sport of boxing is controlled by the Media networks, Corporations.
These networks and corporations are so crooked , they make even Don King look like a saint. On top of their crooked behaviour, they can't come close to matching the competitive boxing matches that King promoted.
We all thought that King as less evil than Arum, but today we are finding that both King and Arum are less evil than the major media corporations.

For all his faults, & there are many, nobody promotes a fight quite like King.

    1. America has a long standing history of celebrating murderes/crooks/thieves/degenerates. If they have money, then odds are they will never do time.
    2. Boxing had no competition back then. Now UFC, an upstart with a huge ambition and great fight cards, is dominating the **** out of boxing. When i say I box and have been for years, I usually get asked mma questions and get genuinely puzzled expressions when I mention that it's not the same thing.
    3. The business model you describe is only fine to you because you're not on the short end of the stick of it. But this is actually the only point where you have some validity: there is a famous quote that goes "Other promoters promise you 1 million, and get you 1 milion. DK promises you 5 milion, steals 3, you get 2 million"
    4. A bunch of racist mumbo jumbo. It must have been jealous white people that killed the 2 suckers that DK killed too :rofl

Don King financially knocked out Ali and Tyson and many other legends, had them on their knees begging for table scraps after stealing millions from them. He fixed entire tournaments then hired hitmen to attempt to murder the fighters who told the media. He has destroyed more fighters than anyone else in boxing. ATG.

During the Don King monopoly period we will never know how much talent we missed out on because he turned boxing into a refuge for desperate men instead of a world-class sport.

Once you came up the ranks you had a multiple murderer with connections to the mafia lay a contract on the table saying he gets 90% and if you don't sell X tickets, you owe him X million (you fight, you pay him, and if he wants you to lose, you lose, or you pay him some more).

Don't sign? You can't fight anyone ranked. Only people who were extremely desperate or moderately insane signed. How many guys just said "**** that" and got a job at a supermarket?

i don't think anybody is in denial about king the man, despicable. we can't extend that to denial about his influence, boxing would have done just fine, but without profile-boosting events such as the rumble in the jungle, achieved largely because of king's sheer force of personality.

edit: i just read that drivel at the top of this page. it appears intelligence does not guarantee having a clue.

    I agree:yep

At least with a KING card, it would be stacked for a full nights entertainment, yer def got yer $$$ on a King show!

When Tyson fought Holyfield in Nov 96 for the WBA crown, you also have Moorer/Bothe for the IBF & Akinwande/Russian for the WBO + Christie Martin, the lesbian coal minors daughter!

You'll not see that sort of bill again in todays rip-off Goldenboy comedy PPV cards.
