before don king, there had never been a big time black boxing promoter or manager. white guys dominated the business of boxing. then along came don king...he took over boxing. and the white guys who ran boxing couldn't stand the fact that some black guy was now the most powerful man in boxing. they hated him for taking away their power and the money they felt entitled to. they hated him for taking the black and latino fighters they had grown accustomed to exploiting. they hated the fact that great black fighters were now getting uppity and demanding and getting what they were worth.

white boxing magazine writers like jack obermayer, jeff ryan and steve farhood from ring and KO also hated king...the same way they hated ali and holmes and SRL and tyson and sweet pea, etc, and constantly wrote all kinds of hateful sh8t about those guys in those magazines. they were the main ones who called king a criminal and a scumbag. not because he did anything crimnal, but because he was a threat to white control of boxing. but like they say, if you repeat something often enough, people start to believe it...but the thing is, if you ask people to give you an example of ONE criminal thing king did to his fighters, they can't tell you...why? cause it's all a LIE.

There's a reason king has never gone to jail for ripping off any of his fighters. its' because he NEVER DID!...it's a fabrication created by jealous, hateful, racist white bigots (think republicans and tea-baggers) who assume every black man must be involved in criminal activity, so king must be too...sure king killed a guy years before he got involved in boxing...but by the time he became a promoter which was a legit business, he had learned the rules better than anybody else... top guys like tyson, chavez and others LOVED fighting for king...he made HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS for them...would they have if he was really just criminal scum?

Most fans of boxing are just too stupid, clueless, gullible or racist themselves to figure out what really happened. "don king is a crook" is almost a mantra to many people who never even seen a don king fight... they did a good smear job on the man. but one of these days, somebody is gonna have to set the record straight.

Dude you're obsessed with "white this, white that" and race in general.
Seriously you come across as a racist and in serious denial about DK b/c you can't cross your racial demons.
DK was running numbers in the hood long b4 he became a big time boxing manager. Many years ago when he was being interviewed on the Bob Costas show he talked about that. DK said "so what, now the state govts are in the numbers game (lotteries)." He was right and made a good point.

However just b/c DK is black and b4 the top boxing promoters were white does not mean DK wasn't an exploiting crook. Your arguments make no sense. Your argument boils down to DK is black and being persecuted, people be racist, blah, blah :-( You come across as having a giant chip on your shoulder

Most of the fighters DK ripped off were black Ams. But that's not as important as the fact he was ripping off the men who put their health on the line for our entertainment. Have white promoters done similarly. Yes, but how does that absolve DK for being a conniving crook? :think

    It doesn't :deal

I come across as a racist because i discuss the reality of racism in boxing? Here i was, thinking that being racist meant hating another race. You sound like somebody trying like crazy to deny racism exists and that it has consequences in boxing and in the real world...usually that's the case until it affects you personally.

my point about king is, what gives you or anybody else the right to call the man a crook if he has never been convicted of ripping off even ONE of the fighters under contract to him? the fact that he killed a guy in a street fight years before he even entered boxing? That's usually what people say because THEY CAN"T FIND ANY EXAMPLES OF FIGHTERS HE RIPPED OFF!...NONE! if you want to say he was convicted of homicide, that's cool...it's a proven fact. But you have NO PROOF OR EVIDENCE that king ripped of any of his fighters, black, white, latino, asian whatever...the fact that he was branded a crook while he was in boxing is because he is a black man who dominated a business that up til then was run by white men...that's not a matter of opinion. It's fact.

there have been black promoters, i'm sure who ripped off black fighters...not saying it doesn't happen to fighters and promoters of all races. But if you're gonna accuse a guy of something, at least have some proof to back it up, or else you come across as extremely suspect yourself.
