Donaire did not at all look as good as he was supposed to tonight. Darc is a very solid fighter but Donaire is meant to be elite level (where i still just about rate him). He absolutely did not look elite and its clear that he now questions himself in the ring (which he candidly admitted in the post fight interview) - bad signs of mental strength or lack thereof. It could be because Rigo took something from him, or it could be because he has always been heavily reliant on his left hook and on counter punching, because his offence seems poor and undeveloped. Overall, we were either watching a partially ruined/declining fighter or a fighter being exposed as being less versatile or less warrior-esque than we first realised.

But yes, he always has that big power in the left hand to help him out of bad situations and he will have another chance to get his stock back up. However, he is absolutely not ready for Rigo right now, and I think he never will be because my bet is that we will never see Rigo question himself like Donaire did tonight. Things look bleak for his status as elite right now. Drastic changes or fall off.

The power IS the last to go but his boxing skills are diminishing. His timing and speed were off. Donaire might might be done as a top ten PFP fighter.

He won via came from behind victory. Tell me who can do that? it was a good fight. He's the only to hurt Vic. I thought the stoppage was early but Vic looked like a few punches to going to sleep.

That was a good test. He didn't clinch or run he took shots from a big puncher that was strong as a bull.He had to find a lucky shot and he got it.

    So what's the problem?:think

The fact that he had to do it is BAD!
6 Years ago Donaire dominated and knocked out a prime Vic, now all of a sudden he struggles with him?
    This is a bad sign.

Look he didn't shake and bake run and clinch, it wasn't razzle dazzle slick boxing.

It was hard fight take a shot no clinch go for it kind of a fight.

Against a guy who came prepared. Tell me which Mexican, which slick did that to Vic?

Donaire's performance is good for a regular championship level fighter, because Darc definitely brought it tonight. But Donaire is p4p one of the best. The performance wasnt good for the level that is expected of an elite level p4p fighter. And no one can really argue that. His offence was nowhere and he was questioning himself.

He deserves credit for showing the grit to comeback, but his boxing ability has seemingly regressed in his last few fights. He waits too long and only goes for big leap in potshots and counters now, not doing much to set up his offense or put punches together. And Vic is no mug even at this stage of his career, but Donaire was having a lot of trouble even finding him, which is disturbing as Vic is no defensive mastermind in there. Even more disturbing, Vic was able to find Donaire a lot and did a number on him for most of the fight. Pre-Rigo, Donaire showed some of these flaws at times, but not to this extent.

Totalyl agree. He used to be good at coming forward, being quick and aggressive and utilising timing. Now all I see is 100% counter-punching, and when that wasnt working I saw no plan B (which should have been either to start coming forward or at least to hang back but while popping speedy jabs). I dont know what the reason is.

I was also disappointed that he seemed to lack that killer instinct and as was mentioned by another poster he admitted to a degree he has mental issues but he also took a mad uppercut before he landed his left book which sent darc to the floor. He probably knew it was make or break

I also think he needs to settle down his camp, he has also just had a baby and so there is much he needs to settle down with

I feel sorry for darc bcus he was disciplined and gave monitor much trouble. But unfortunately he got caught. Maybe people should be careful what they say next time ie I'm gonna retire him etc.

Donaire did it again what no Mexican or slick at the lower weights could do, twice.

Might of taken him longer and it was harder. But the same result!! next...

What's remarkable was he was losing and getting whooped then answered the adversity emphatically.

    WOW..

His only weakness at the moment appears to be mentally , looks like he needs to trust his skills a bit more , at least his power is still there , but I understand how he feels , it's not easy to be 100 % mentally prepared after the schooling he took from Rigondeaux . He'll be fine once he defeats Salido . Peace .

Donaire in my opinion can't beat a full blown featherweight, he is exposed to many punches

If you look at Donaire, he basically a teenager trapped in a adult's body. His cheesy baseball caps. His baby's hairstyle. His maturity really haven't developed and that's where his mental weakness comes from.

He's not the fighter he used to be. There is definitely a regression. Going from dominating Vic to getting out-landed and outboxed by Vic is pretty damning. He lost his confidence and he's questioning himself before he throws every punch.

Those are not the qualities of an elite fighter. He's pretty much done as a P4P fighter.
