http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/april/21/yehey/sports/20090421spo1.html “It [moving up] is definitely what I wanted to do. I want to move up for a while but it’s really up to my promoter and my manager,” said Donaire, who currently holds the International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization flyweight titles. Even Donaire’s promoter, Bob Arum, agrees that Sunday’s “The Flash & The Furious” card should be the Bohol-born fighter’s last outing at flyweight. The celebrated promoter, who also has Filipino superstar Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao under his wings, is looking at something big for Donaire’s first foray at bantamweight. “There’s this fight between [Eric] Morel and [Fernando] Montiel in the Kelly Pavlik [versus Sergio Mora] title defense [at middleweight] on June 27. I wanna get Donaire into the mix. Whether Morel wins or Montiel wins, he [Donaire] should fight the winner,” Arum said. The Morel-Montiel fight will be for the World Boxing Organization bantamweight title, of which Montiel is the interim holder. Donaire said he is ready to face anyone in the bantamweight or superbantamweight division. “Anybody as long it is a championship fight,” he said. Donaire had to shed three pounds hours before the weigh-in for his third title defense against Martinez. ”I’m no longer comfortable with flyweight because it’s killing my body slowly,” he said. “I felt good during the weigh-in against Martinez but that’s because I trained really hard.” Donaire actually weighed in at 111.5-lbs on Saturday. ================== good news... this is what i've been waiting for! let's see if donaire can step it up. :deal
:bbb Hopefully Nonito can rise up to the challenge. But with that killer counter left and skills he can go a long way. My only question is that if Donaire will still be able to have power in his punches up in bantamweight. Great avatar btw. :good
Vic needs to fight this guy no amount of victories can erase the ass clubbing he received at the hands of Nonito and Vic needs to eventually redeem himself be a man and take this challenge.
I remember the prelude to the Donaire Darchinyan fight. his website said that he'll make Donaire dance like a Ballerina and make him pay for Glenn Donaire quitting on their fight because he had a broken jaw. I like Darchinyan as a fighter but man is it ever funny when arrogant idiots make fools of themselves.
With his style, there's no reason he can't do well up to 118. Once he gets higher than that and his reach advantage starts to dissipate, then he'll start having more problems.
Oh FFS, are you still posting that ignorant ****? "Hi ESB, my name is Red_Sherpa, and I know sweet **** all about anything. Doesn't stop me from showing the world what a dumb **** I am at every opportunity though. Man, am I proud to be a dumb ****!" Just what ESB needs, more people who know nothing at all about boxing going and filling forums with pure ****. Get a life newbie, and if you cant then **** off and die.
Man the dude above me is crazy. Anyways Montiel-Donaire will be an outstanding fight. I for one can't wait to see it.
totally unnecessary dude, people flying off the handle and calling other posters ****s are what we don't need.
If Vic keeps evading Donaire like that for a few more fights, he'll be a candidate for the P4P title. :yep
