MANILA, Philippines – World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire said he has heard call outs from fellow champions Guillermo Rigondeaux and Abner Mares.
He told his challengers to wait for their turn as he faces International Boxing Federation (IBF) title holder Jeffrey Mathebula.
“My goal is to be the undisputed champion of this division. Jeffrey Mathebula is who is in front of me now because he’s the IBF titleholder, he was available to fight and he was willing to make the fight happen,” he said in RingTV.
The fight card is set to take place this weekend at the Home Depot in Carson City, California.
It will be aired locally on ABS-CBN Channel 2 on Sunday starting 10 a.m.
“My next fight could be against Rigondeaux or Mares,” he said.
Rigondeaux is the WBA titleholder, while Mares is the reigning WBC champion.
“I know Rigondeaux and Mares are out there, and I know they’ve called me out. There are five or six guys calling me out, saying I’m scared to fight them, and they are all good fighters. All I can say is that they have to wait their turn. I will get to them,” Donaire said.
But Filipino boxer begged his challengers to make sure that they’d be there when negotiations take place.
“They have to do their part to make the fight and be realistic when negotiating,” he said. “You can’t call someone out and then ask for the world. Pardon my French, but you don’t [expletive] gold, guys.”

The problem is when asked about the fight live on TV he doesn't seem interested to fight Rigondeaux.

I wouldn't mind Donaire vs Moreno vs Mares winner next, but I think Donaire needs to fight Rigondeaux before moving up which he talked about doing post fight.

Because Donaire fans want to make it appear as though he does want Rigondeaux and isn't actually coming up with dozens of excuses.

The bottom line is money. Rigo is relatively unknown and has no fan base to bank on. But I pity him if ever he meets Nonito. I don't know he can put up with Nonito's vaunted power.
