mathebula landed shoeshine punches all throughout.. that's not an example of 'clean effective punching'. it does not fall on that category. again, the 4 criterias in judging a fight, clean effective punching, defense, ring generalship and effective aggression.

 

It's actually:

1. CLEAN Punching (no need to throw the effective in there, that's the next part)
2. Effective Aggressiveness
3. Ring Generalship
4. Defense

 

Didn't like the way Donaire fought for the most part though I was entertained with the thought of him going for the knockout with one big punch and hoping he lands it.

He should have went to the body WAAAAY more, broke the dude down and opened up the head shots. Barely threw any combos or use his jab. When he started throwing his jab late in the fight and setting up punches Mathebula didn't seem like he belonged in the ring with him. When he allowed Mathebula the throw from distance waiting to land one big shot he looked like an amatuer.

Depends on how judges score fights, do you go strictly by output or do you go by who is causing more damage. I like Kellerman's way of thinking when he says he chooses a winner by asking himself who would he rather be during each round or for the fight. And I would have rather been Donaire. Donaire won but the score cards were to wide. Mathebule put in enough work to get better then a 108.

 

Then tell me why Donaire hesitates whenever Rigo gets mentioned?

 

I agree, in a few occasions during the fight, the HBO commentators were definitely over crediting Mathebula for pity punches, saying they were great shots and disregarding the solid shots from Nonito.

It was a very close fight The judges scorecards proved beyond a doubt that had Donaire been knocked out twice he'd still have won. Fight could have gone either way
Pavlik- Rosinsky was close too, once again judges favored the name fighter.
