Donaire has acquired ATG status over night?

I think he's being rated above Martinez for his dominance. He's fought 2 very good fighters and a few solid contenders, he made them all look like they didnt belong in the same ring as him. Martinez scored a great KO, but also lost the previous match, he's shown vulnerabilities that Donaire hasnt yet.

 

In today's crop of fighters, if you have a fighter who is very good in your resume that you defeated, you will be discussed like you are an ATG.

If you have 2 fighters who are very good, you are definitely an ATG.


Martinez defeated Williams, who is very one-dimensional (been saying these for years - I got the same tag "You don't know boxing") and whose only attribute is he is a giant in a land of fighters who are 5'8 to 5'9". And suddenly everybody has been saying he is PFP number 3 or 4.

It is the pattern in ESB.

But looking at Donaire's skillset, he definitely deserve his "hype". The lower divisions seldom have fighters who has his power, and can read his opponents well. He sets up his punches very well.

If you are not impressed with the way he countered Montiel (that takes a split second to execute - infact Montiel's right connected), then this time "you don't know boxing".

 

Donaire's victory is actually more career defining than any of Gayweather's fights.

 

donaire is not a atg but he definitly has the potential, if he captures some good wins in the higher weights sky will be the limit.

 

For many people who rated him highly beforehand, the Montiel massacre was mere confirmation of his greatness. It is too early to label him an ATG, but there should be no doubt about him being one of the greatest today.

He is deserving of the Roy Jones comparison, for more than just his style. With his two crushing wins over Darchinyan and Montiel, he is now at the stage in his career Roy Jones was after beating Hopkins with one hand and embarrassing Toney. Definate superstar, and he has plenty of great fights ahead of him to fulfil his potential.

People constantly abuse the ATG moniker. Look at the threads calling the Klits and Slappy Joe ATG's. I'm with you. Great win, but chill out.
