He wasn't. That was his brain trying to get his body to get up....which he did. A knock of only 2 good fighters doesn't make you ATG
What I like about Donaire: -He has an extremely powerful and fast left hook. -He has about as perfect timing with it as I have ever seen So right now you have a left handed fighter who is willing to trade left hooks, and has the patience and balls to time it to put your lights out. Yeah Nonito is going to go very, very far. What the **** is up with these philapinos and their left hand anyways?
I think people are getting carried away over Donaire but I never really rated Williams or Pavlik so those victories didn't impress me that much. Also martinez doesn't seem as well rounded a boxer as Donaire
So much is made of these P4P lists. One would only have to watch Montiel or Darchinyan for 3 minutes to conclude that they aren't on the same level as a Hopkins or a Toney. One poster suggested that this victory over Montiel is more impressive than Manny's first win over Marco Antonio Barrera. That is nuts. Ludicrous. Fans are quick to bring up Montiels achievements, spanning a number of different weights, but becoming a multi-divisional champion is far easier at Flyweight-SuperFly than it is at the likes of Featherweight and upwards. The talent pool is typically larger. For example, Cristian Mijares is currently the IBF Champion. He hasn't even been considered relevant since losing to Darchinyan and yet he's a world champion? About sums it up. Montiel is a very good fighter....he was never a great Bantamweight, though.
Likewise, I've never been sold on the idea that Pavlik is a world level operator, but Williams is very, very difficult to beat. I certainly think he's harder to beat at Middleweight than Montiel was at Bantamweight. Martinez devastated a P4P rated opponent who held significant physical advantages in only two rounds at arguably his best weight. Neither man was heavily favored going in. On the other hand, Donaire devastated a P4P rated opponent who HE held significant physical advantages over in two rounds. Donaire was heavily favored going in. One man got up, the other wouldn't have survived a 50 count. One man was known for having a good chin, the other had been down numerous times before in his career. Just sayin'.
I don't think he was ever even very good addie.Decent fighter who liked his WBO titles but was overhyped considerably early in his career and mostly flattered to decieve.
Agreed. :good I know fighters usually get hyped up after a big win, but I think the whole deal with Martinez was almost justified. Of course, Williams was never the most avoided man on Planet Earth and he's always had limitations, but the climax of their rematch was genuinely shocking, genuinely impressive. This case is much different. Everyone had already predicted that Donaire would have a relatively easy night. The best thing that ever happened to Montiel was getting starched by Donaire in two rounds, because this has seemingly gave him more credit, has seemingly upped his stock in more ways than a victory ever could. Somehow...I don't know. Madness. :huh
You are right, in a way he is been lucky to get starched in two rounds and showing his will to continue, it would had been worst if he took a beating for 12th rounds, ppl will had say that he should retire after the beating.
jumped from 115 to 122... i don't think he's an all time great yet. there's tons of boxers that have half as skill and are HOF worthy or ATG status.
Who said he's atg overnight atsch if he was he's probably outside the hundred mark :?:? no one said the kid is ATG or GOAT..
