This content is protected Never mind Inoni's hair there, look at the shoulders and eye-lines: Noni is bringing as much physical advantage into this fight as Kovalev did on Saturday, it's just not Inoni moving up but Noni moving down. Result is the same: Noni is expected to outweigh Inoni handsomely (no homo), and I dare to say he's actually closer to his prime (which was at BW anyways) than Kovalev at this point, plus he does NOT gas or have a weakened punch resistance. Inoni actually started 4 divisions lower and was already outsized by 118 opposition, so it somewhat draws Canelo similarities, though I don't want to have any beef with Nelo's fans, just stating the facts. With 1/4th of hype but perhaps even more difficult situation, IF Inoni can impressively beat Noni, will he get similar P4P recognition and perhaps surpass Loma, Spence, Nelo and Uysk in a year he beat two top ranked champs for divisional glory, or will powers to be sweep it under the rug? And if Noni wins, will that put him back on the P4P list where he clearly belongs if his left hook removes the I from Inoni?
Good question. I think Donaire in general is better p4p than Kovalev but they are both probably equally past it. Donaire just looked shot vs Frampton and he's been fighting weak opposition ever since. Still, Donaire has serious firepower so always a dangerous fight.
Even if it sounded dangerous and counterproductive, Noni cutting 2 weights served him extremely good: the explosiveness, the accuracy, the timing was there. I think his pinpoint punching style suffered upon carrying the extra weight divisions higher, particularly obvious vs. fresh, young, well-built fighters with considerable size advantage like Frampton or Walters. He's however UNBEATEN at 118, and he himself has the physical advantages in the fight. I clearly favored Nelo to beat Kova, however, given how Noni never was bothered by punches at 118, nor showed fading in late rounds, I consider him a FAR bigger threat, and obviously overall the FAR better fighter than Kovalev, with a HOF-ready resume. As I Monsta fan, I am genuinely concerned, and as a fan of giving props, I need the boxing world to show this fight and achievement on either side more support.
Donaire should put up a stronger effort, but his age and ring miles can not be overlooked. Particularly at those lower weights, older fighters do not have the success as older guys at the higher weights. I believe this is because those lower weights are so much more effected by speed and reflexes as guys in the higher weights
Yes but Noni IS in the WBSS finals and had Tete scared away, so he IS an extremely live dog... statistics and per fighter father time are two different things, even in the Burnett fight, Noni started to settle in and bust up the champ. * * * * * BTW, can anyone explain how Tete could pull out AND take the title with him, no fights owed under the WBSS banner? I expected contracts to lay out that all belts involved to be at stake for the final, and if someone gets injured like Tete, then he'll be the sanctioning body supported mandatory for the winner but CANNOT escape with the title with him. He clearly didn't want no part of Noni, and putting his belt on the line soon ain't right. He signed up for WBSS putting the title in the pot.
