Yeah, there were definitely shades of RJJ in there, especially in round 3. But an RJJ who uses the fundamentals more... that was an awesome showcase fight for Donaire.
I was just thinking as I was watching the fight, at 30 seconds into round 3 when Donaire was doing that bouncing and throwing from the hip, it reminded me of RJJ.
He still has to SHOW that pnd for pnd CHIN and HEART. It's the only thing. I am not saying he should stick his chin out. But most of these real good BOXERS have responded like true warriors. Morales, Marquez, Floyd and Pacquiao. Not FOLD or RUN.But show amazing heart.
Per Boxrec Sidorenko is listed at 5'4 and Nonito at 5'6...he sure as hell looked more than 2 inches taller to me.
Donaire fights like a mini-version of Chad Dawson only with a killer instinct in him. A nice counter puncher with a hard-chin will expose him.
well if he makes the weight then its not a problem right? I think Donaire has the height to go as high up as 130 or so
I think if Nonito's smart enough to make a pure counter puncher like that come to him, he's quick enough with his own counter hook to even take care of those guys. He's a damn tough package to beat at this point.
A Dawson with killer instinct will be one hell of a fighter. Who are you picking on the Montiel-Donaire fight?
well he made the weight so I see no problem there, weight draining has it's pros and cons anyway. strange thing though is that this is first fight at 118 and he still looks huge... sort of the way Pac looked against his opponents at the lower weights back then.
