... that he oughta be more humble in those post fight interviews.

He's a good talker and has a good personality and great potential for stardom, but when Max says "Montiel seemed to be getting his rhythm going.", he needs to say "Yeah, he was getting to me a little bit there." rather than that he was letting him do that, and he needs to not say that he predicted the 2nd round knockout with a happy grin on his face.

I don't know what that ref was thinking letting the fight go on, Montiel was trying to run while horizontal on the floor.

    Donaire looked sensational.

I'm not familiar with 118, are there good fights there for these two guys?

I wish Roy Jones would work on his speech, it's godawful.

Donaire looks funny with a baby face and a receding hairline.

he was very humble especially when kellerman tried to ttrick him with the pac question he was carefull with his words.
You can see that he really really wants to be accepted and loved by his people like pac.

Not necessarily aimed at you, newby, but I don't get it. When guys like Tim Bradley who speak confidently of themselves and goad other opponents, he gets praised for it and is considered as someone who's keeping it real. But when Noni says something simple as the above, he needs to watch his mouth and be more humble?

Like I said, it's not you that I'm talking about. It's just that I noticed quite a few others get irked off by him for just petty things, and I don't understand why.

I think because of his origin people expect him to act like pac and be humble in win. Donaire isnt pac and can say whatever he wants as long as he backs it up, I tought his interview was good he was very humble and gratefull yet had confident in his abilities, that a good mix.

Bantamweight is stacked with good fighters. In April you have the final of Showtime's Bantamweight Tournament Joseph Agbeko-Abner Mares and the other Champion Anselmo Moreno whilst unknown is very talented.

Mares is with Golden Boy so if he wins it won't happen, Agbeko is with King so that would be more likely to happen. Agbeko especially would be a good fight he is very physically strong and he is a good orthodox fighter, it would interesting to see how Donaire would deal with him.

I guess he annoys me when he jumps around the ring like a teenage girl. Others may be annoyed by similar things, so when he conducts his interviews, I guess those things are transferred over when he speaks, and they're just put off by him.

This thread is rediculous. There is nothing wrong with being cocky. Everyone's personality is different.

What is it when white people HATE when a minority acts cocky? Just admire the talent in the ring & stop being emotional. Yall really take it personal when a guy shows he's cocky.

It's a matter of what fits whom.

Take DLH, his charm and appeal came from the fact that he's the nice boyish guy (coincidentally a similar set of qualities that Nonito has) and it doesn't suit him to say something like "yeah I knew I was gonna get him in 2" or smth like that. It undermines the appeal of the nice guy persona he projects (through looks and voice and personality). It's playing against one's strenghts.

On the other hand if someone like Prince Naseem were to say it it would work for him, because his charisma comes from the fact that he's a bragadoccio and the confident bad guy.

Aaaaah, yeah I watched those tourney fights, any of those mactchups would be dynamite. Thanks!

What? What interview were you watching? Kellerman didn't try to trick him, he (Nonito) said that if it came to that (that he and Pac were #1 and #2 pfp) he'd do it. Obviously he got tripped up and didn't mean to say that, as he explained when Max asked, but that's what he said.

I think he is humble. Yeah, it would have been nice to say something like I fought a great champion tonight in Montiel, or whatever, but it was an emotional fight for him and it was his moment. Hes a very confident person as all champions are. I do think he is likeable but he is one of those personalities that could easily slip into the unlikeable category over time imo. Hopefully im wrong. Im a big fan of Donaire. His story seems a lot like Shane Mosley to me. He had a falling out with his father (uglier than Shanes) and I also sense that his wife plays a big role in his career like Shanes did. I heard her in an interview and dont care much for her and her influence on him definately plays a role. Thats not to say it hasnt worked in his favor either, but over time it cause problems. All in all, I think was gracious enough last night and was spectacular in the ring. He is a special talent.

And it's a shame, because he has tremendous star potential. He just needs to learn to work it the right way.

What kind of an infulence do you think she has on him?

I've seen her in Elie Seckbach videos, too, and I think her cockyness does him a disservice.

    newby Johnson,

Good post. I get what you mean. I actually have similar feelings towards Tim Bradley. And to be honest, I probably do find Noni a tad bit annoying. I was gutted seeing Montiel get knocked out like that, and watching Donaire dance around the ring whilst the poor guy was out of it.

Bloody hell, even I'm criticising him for petty things now. I guess we all do it.

Exactly. It doesn't become him and undermines the appeal he has.

But you see, it's not petty. It's the difference between being a star and not. Imagine if DLH walked around saying "I'm a gorilla, I'm a dog!" Would he ever have become as big as he did? Of course not.

If I was his manager I'd have him studying DLH interviews an hour a day. He has too much star potential to blow it by saying "I knew I was gonna KO him in 2". He should be emulating Oscar to a t.
