You cant be in the fight game unless you are 100 percent all in. Heard Donaire talking about having accomplished all he wanted in boxing. He was talking this way just before the bout and he indicated that boxing wasn't paramount in his life anymore. Once I heard that, I immediately knew he was getting his ass handed to him if his opponent was tough. Its over the hunger is no longer there.
I can agree, while he still has competitive skills one of the things that tells me he should retire is him mentioning Walters aura as to one of the reasons he lost. This speaks to a person with a clear confidence problem, a person who just doesn't know how to win, if he keeps fighting we may end up looking at another Juanma situation.
He's not one of those fighters that age well. He should retire before he gets brain damage. Doesn't he want to be able to talk to his kids when he gets older?
He was doing reasonably well but Walters was just too big and powerful for him. Its the first time really that he has taken big damage and he is only 31. Walters may go on to be a great fighter. I think Donaire still has the tools if he wants to to have a few more years, but he probably needs to drop back down to 122 where I think he would still have a great chance against the likes of Quigg, Frampton and LSC.
He's not going to retire, not for a long while he does not have that kind of money and all he knows is boxing.
He fought stupid last night. He could have boxed more and avoided banging until the later rounds. He showed that he could hurt Walters, but he didn't let the KO come, he went looking for it and he paid the price. Maybe get rid of Garcia and his dad and try Roach for a few fights. It might benefit him.
