"Nonito Donaire, Jr. of the Philippines was awarded the 'Knockout of the Year' by World Boxing Hall of Fame for his spectacular one-punch fifth round knockout on former flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan last year during the press conference announcing the Nov. 1 Donaire-Mthalane title fight held at the Hyatt Regency Century in Los Angeles Monday." I would have rather perferred Sylvester's KO over Castillejo, but this KO was pretty good too.. Was Miranda's KO over Banks up for this?
Are they using a calendar from the Middle Ages or something? It's a great KO, but it's also only September.
Maybe they went by the second half of last year and the first half of this year? I dunno'.. I figured it be for all of 2008 and would be presented at the end of this year..
I think what made the Donaire KO so great was the guy he was in there against. Everybody, including myself thought the undefeated Darchinyan was gonna kill Nonito like he did his brother. Plu watching Darchinyan stumble into the ropes trying to regain his balance made it that much better.
Good point.. Darch was a huge favorite and he did lip off a lot to Donaire too before the fight.. Still a good KO, but I think there was better..
