judging from Mijares' and Donaire's recent performances, you'd have to go with Nonito just based on overall ability.

However I think that stylewise Mijares poses some problems for Donaire because he is not there to be counterpunched with his stick and move style of fighting.

So I would predict that Donaire wins but doesn't look good doing it.

Cristian Mijares remains my favorite active fighter. I feel he was treated harshly by the General Forum after his defeat at he hands of another very good fighter and P4P entrant, Vic Darchinyan. I didn't get any coverage of his return bout but by all accounts I've read he was robbed on the scorecards. No surprise when you go through his back catalogue of decisions. One judge had him losing every round in a fight he clearly dominated from opening bell to last. Shocking.

That said, Donaire is another fighter I like. His left hook is perhaps the best in the sport right now, and that is saying a lot. He has very good power as evidenced by his destruction of Vic, and his skills are silky smooth. Very quick feet, he jumps in and out of distant throwing counters and swift straight hands. One of the best fighters in the world today, no question.

I give the edge to Donaire. He has momentum at the moment, and he has the height and reach to be very awkward for Mijares, who likes to stay in the pocket and use his upper body movement. Donaire has very quick hands and feet, and would tag Mijares fairly often, often enough to probably force a stoppage much like Darchinyan did.

    I go with Donaire, TKO.

Mijares is the better fighter of the two but Donaire is much stronger. Hard fight to pick and the Darchinyan performances could be misleading.

Mijares fought and beat MUCH better opposition than Donaire (whose sole elite win is Darchinyan and he had the style advantage), and Cristian handled Arce (fast, very strong boxer-puncher), Navarro (highly skilled boxer) and Munoz (very hard puncher) pretty well. Vic had the style advantage in their fight, but Donaire is much more textbook, I think the Mijares who beat Munoz would most likely find the defense vs. Donito's straight power punches and counter well to win a close decision, but it's almost a 50/50 fight prime vs. prime.

The biggest name they both fought was named Vic Darchinyan. Styles make fights, and on this basis, I don't see how Mijares can really win.

If he stays on the outside, he gets picked apart by the fighter with the longer jab and superior height. If he stays in the pocket, he is there to be hit by Donaire's thunderous left hook. Mijares is elusive at the worst of times, but Donaire is so fast himself that he will inevitably land.

They are both extremely skilled fighters, but Donaire poses problems with his height and reach.

Coming back from a brutal knockout loss? THAT Mijares loses to Donaire by knockout. I was talking about the Mijares who got barely hit by a prime Arce, Navarro and Munoz, 3 top quality fighters. Darchinyan offered awkwardness, unpredictability and sheer physical power. Donaire is very diffent. Styles make fights, and Donaire's strong textbook style is something Mijares would handle pretty well.

You make good points, but Mijares would have to close the distant, land his shots, and get out without being hit. I don't think he is good enough to do it against someone as fleet footed and speedy as Nonito Donaire, who can punch like a mule with his counter left hook. Ask Vic.

I would love to see the fight, either way.

Like I said, styles make fights. Mijares doesn't leave himself open to textbook counter-lefthooks. In fact, Arce, who had an absolutely superb left hand couldn't land **** on Mijares.

Fighting Mijares does not make business sense, but considering Arce is a shot item, he would get more respect off the hardcore crowd by defeating Mijares.

donaire's finishing skill would be more tested against arce...

both arce and mijares would win two rounds against donaire at most

Donaire likely has stylistic issues with Mijares. Moreso then Vic had with Mijares.

I think his hands by his side counter puncher style would give a busy technician like Mijares more room to work.
Mithalane has his moments with a pretty basic gameplan and solid fundamentals. Often speed and athleticism can be negated with an intelligent jab and good footwork which an on his game Mijares has.

I think in the end Donaire has to much speed and explosive power to lose..He would hurt Cristian and Mijares will go into a shell with no plan B to save him. But Cristian took a fair licking from Darchinyan, I reckon he makes the rounds..I think Nonito would need to get a little more aggressive and mongrel in him to stop him quicker then Vic did.

Mijares is the better counter-puncher, chances of Donaire catching Cristian with a counter left is minimal. And Mijares has and excellent defense vs. the lead left too.

Prime Arce a midget in slow motion? Gotta love ESB. :rofl
