Donaire has earned my respect over a long period of time and he was a monster at the lower weight classes and still is good at 126. He is a really exciting (sometimes fighter) with all the respect in the world from me. Someone earlier brought up a good point. Rigos P4P status sorely relies on his win over Nonito Donaire and that is saying something. Donaire is just about 32 years of age, has been hit, is 55 approx., and is above his natural weight limit. He is obviously declining and not what he once was. I think it might have something to do with Rigo and definitely getting up there in age. Also, unlike lets say Pacquiao, he has not really adjusted his style as he has gotten older. He is still the same fighter with the same strategy and at his age (and probably more importantly at this weight class) it is not a smart thing. Walters is an interesting match up. Boxing is all about opportunities. No names getting one break and making the most of it. For ex: Ruslan vs. Bradley, Ruslan vs. Algieri. Pacquiao vs. Ledwaba. Mayweather vs. Hernandez, Rigo vs. Donaire . and even when a boxer is at the top: Mayweather against ODLH, Pacquiao against ODLH. Donaire made all of his opportunity in 2007 at about 24 against Vic. And in 2013, Rigo made all of his opportunity against Donaire. It is the cycle of boxing. I see Walters being a hungry fighter, with some decent wins. For what it is worth, he KOd an aged Vic. In the three fights before that, he looked sharp and won by stoppage in all of his fights. This is a hungry fighter on the rise with some major power. He also has a 73 reach, 5 in. longer than Donaires, and about a two inch height advantage. Donaire will need to fighter better than he has recently but witha guy like Donaire I cant say he wont. Hell have plenty oppurunties to counter the question is, can he land, and can Walter take that left hook? Naturally, his hook is not quite as powerful as he has moved up in weight. I see this as a fight that could be a blow out for Walters, marking himself as an exciting fighter who has potential to take over the division. Or, Donaire could be that old dog who proves he still has it it really could go either way.
Walters has a real good shot to win this I was really impressed with Walters’ performance against Darchinyan. He was able to force Darchinyan to fight off his back foot for pretty much the entire fight, and utilized great ring generalship to achieve this, building his attack around an accurate jab, and then feinting to great effect once he established the jab. When Darchinyan would bull rush, Walters tore him apart with accurate power shots. Donaire is a completely different kind of fighter, and his counterpunching style may prove effective against Walters, but Walters has size, strength and impressive boxing ability and is going to be a tough out. Walters just looks like a very solid, well-rounded fighter to me, a guy that does many things well.
Huh...? I'll wake you up right now. He just beat Vetyeka, who had just beat THE longest running titlist in all of boxing in Chris John. Two fights before that, he was the A-side in defeat to Rigondeaux in one of the best fights to be made at the time in all of boxing. Before that, he beat long time top 122 Nishioka. And then two different titles in the two fights before Nishioka before we go back to 118 where he beat the unified top dog in Montiel. Nobody deserves your criticism less than Donaire, my man...
Rigo schooled his ass and exposed Phonaire for what he is. A phony. What did Phonaire say, "Rigo doesn't belong in the ring with me"?
Everyone else knows. You're too stupid just like when I proved you wrong about your knowledge of boxing and it was even about your idol.
Negative on part two of what you said. Not sure why you had to plug in Mayweathers' name there, but since ya did... Hall of Famer Rigondeaux is not... yet. Hall of Famers Mayweather has faced... many. Rigondeaux's whole pro career lies on wins over Donaire, an inactive and above optimal weight Agbeko, and his close but clear win over Ricardo Cordoba. Having said that, the W over Donaire is probably the second best victory of the 2010-present decade, but nonetheless.
I like Walters in this fight. Nonito is still too dependent on that hook and that's not enough to beat this guy.
Walters is a small favorite. I thought the bookmakers would make him the dog. I still want to take Walters because I see him winning the fight but the bet is much less attractive to me. I do believe that Donaire is in decline but he is still a dangerous puncher and Walters is still not experienced at the elite level. If my judgement is off about how good I think Walters is, he might get KO'd here.
