Donaire wants to compete at 115 pounds

I was going to say FFS but then read the posts above. Assuming he can make weight comfortably, he just may get another championship crown.

 

How did it not work at 118? Hes lost 2 championship fights, both to Inoue who is an elite ATG and p4p top 3 at worst. Hes destroyed everyone else even at his age. He ices everybody except Bam at 115, too skilled and powerful along with still being fast, 115 is so overrated and most of them are just brawlers with no power

LOS ANGELES, AUGUST 4 - Nonito Donaire is targeting huge fights at super flyweight with Kazuto Ioka and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez - before moving back up to chase bantamweight greatness.

The former four-weight world champion has emphatically dismissed any idea of retiring following his brutal stoppage defeat to Naoya Inoue in June.

Instead, the legendary Donaire, who will be 40 in November, intends on dropping down to the 115lbs division to chase mouth watering fights with WBO champion Ioka and the brilliant Chocolatito.

And then the Filipino Flash plans to move back into the mix at bantamweight in pursuit of becoming the undisputed champion in that division.

“It's a really good fight with Chocolatito and people are saying it would be ‘legend versus legend’” Donaire told Probellum.com

“It’s a big fight. But I do like the Ioka fight as well because I want to get that title and become a five-division champion and then move back up to 118 and go for the undisputed crown once everything else is open and I get another opportunity for it.”

Donaire has revealed he was mulling over the move to super flyweight in the hours before he faced Inoue last month.

“Before the fight with Inoue, Richard Schaefer and I talked about going down to 115,” Donaire said.

“Making the weight was very simple for me and I made it quickly. I even made 117 before stepping on the scales.

“Richard and I were talking and saying that regardless of what happens here, maybe I can go down to 115 and fight the guys in that division.

“Richard is talking with Ioka's people, with Mr Honda and he is talking to Chocolatito as well. It's exciting, there are a lot of things to look forward to.”

 

No. let him fight that bum guy and end his hype first. then he can fight whoever he wants

 

So donaire plan is to stay busy and get a title in super fly and go back to bantam when inoue move up?

 

A couple more losses and he goes down to straweight...gotta have that size advantage.

 

Donaire needs to retire

 

I don't know if those 3 pounds will mean much. He's never looked weight drained or chiseled. In fact, he's always looked kind of soft. However, he would be a HUGE 115lber and have devastating KO power at that weight class.

Agreed. Roman and Estrada will swerve him. Bam and Cuadras might fight him. SSR would definitely fight him.

This guy irritates me. First he backs out the fight with Casimero. Now he wants to go 115 doing what he do best weight bullying. Retire ASAP!!

 

You answered your own question. He wasn’t #1 in his division so now he moves down to bully some smaller guys and try to be #1 in that division.

 

I don't think Nonito is necessarily thinking that he's going to go down to 115 just so that he can bully the smaller guys. I think he just wants the name fighters in Roman, Estrada, Cuadras, Bam, Ioka. Get the good ole Mexican-Filipino rivalry going. Probably the most money as well as he will probably retire in 1-2 years.

 

Nonito can do whatever he wants. He’s earned enough respect and has built such a grand legacy that moves like this won’t be questioned from me. And any man would be lying if they say they don’t think Donaire versus the top 115 lbers won’t be fun.
