Larry Donald is old, inactive and was robbed in his last outing against Valuev. His long jab would present tremendous problems for Povetkin, as would his experience and Povetkin's lack of defence. It's a stretch, but I think if Larry Donald is in a similiar form to where he was against Valuev, then he will win, but probably won't get the decision in Russia. If he's declined more so in a significant way, then Povetkin should easily win a decision, but even then it may be a very hard fought victory. Regardless, Donald is a hell of an opponent at only 12 fights so far, even with the age and inactivity...
JC could spell some trouble for Lacy..... JC is old, inactive.... well I guess you get my point. Povetkin is NOT unstoppable.
I'm afraid so. Combine that with telepathy and the ability to teleport instantly, and you'll see he's actually killed anybody who agrees with your stance before they could get the message posted. I'm only saved by the foil hat I'm wearing.
I think Povetkin KO8 sounds about right. Picking Donald is still an impressive choice for only his 12th pro fight. If nothing else, Povetkin knows this and it should help him stay that much more focused.
There's a reason Povetkin is able to take on a challenge like this for only his 13th fight. He is not only more skilled, but he is mentally on a whole different level than any other prospects are after 12 fights. People underestimate the importance of calmness and confidence in the ring. It makes boxers' chins MUCH better and allows them to think faster / more clearly and adapt to styles. I agree with most of your picks Amsterdam, but you're gonna be way off on this one. I hope you watch this match on Saturday, so you could see how beautifully Povetkin times his punches and throws them quickly in varieties that will even confuse a veteran like Donald. Povetkin by KO. :hat
As far as this fight goes. Donald is a savvy vet, and he did present Valuev with a lot of trouble due to his movement and greater handspeed. The thing is that Povetkin moves as well as he does and actually has faster hands. As far as his defense being bad it really isn't. One will notice that many of the shots he doesn't slip or block really don't land flush. Donald might have the better jab, that isn't really fair since it is his only real weapon, but Povetkin has a quick hook to the body and head, a fast well timed right hand, and a strong uppercut. I think between Povetkin's ability to cut off the ring, speed and his body attack that he will slow Donald down and stop him around the 7th round.
Well, I am not making a "cemented" pick, I am just making a projection of what could be if Donald comes in like he did against Valuev. This is a very risky fight. I'd be officially on the Povetkin train if he KOed Donald, I really would.
Donald has a long jab but Povetkin has great timing and very fast hand. I don't think Donald will last the distance.
