Both guys primed up - old school catch weight fight. Vito comes in at 160lbs Donald doesn’t need to make welter so he likely comes in at 150-160lbs. How do you guys think this bout would go?
Donald would not get this guy off him. Vito would grind him down and walk through anything Donald did. Curry needs a lot more mobility and some faster feet for a guy like this.
Vito very arguably should have got the nod over Hagler. If he could beat Hagler then I reckon he would have got past Curry. He would walk straight towards Curry, grab him, rough him up inside, and Curry simply wouldn’t have the power or the feet to get Vito off him imo.
Agreed. If you couldn't stop him on cuts, you had your hands full with Vito. Underrated guy, and his style is a nightmare for Curry.
yeah. it's vito so prob he loses on cuts. ignoring that, curry would win some early rounds but get overwhelmed.
I thought it could have gone either way honestly. I had it a draw since I had the 9th even. I did think if either man deserved to win it was probably Vito though. He pressed the action, forced the fight, and by and large got the best of the exchanges. It was anything but a robbery though. Hagler himself was very good at making narratives about him being robbed in this fight and the SRL fight, as well as a biased commentator who heaped credit on Hagler for his ineffective stick and move (which was more of the latter than the former) as an excellent outboxing performance.
I've only seen the fight once but I remember Hagler outboxing Antuofermo for most of the fight until the later rounds, where either Hagler took his foot off the gas or was slightly gassed. And then Antuofermo made it closer in the later rounds with his aggression, but I still felt Hagler clearly won it by a few rounds but I'd have to rewatch it. But I've often said the Antuofermo fight was a learning experience for Hagler because if you look at the Duran fight, Hagler deliberately took rounds 11-13 off. And he made sure he had enough left in the tank for a big finish in rounds 14 and 15 which won Hagler the decision. Who knows if Hagler had fought Duran the same way as he did Antuofermo giving all the later rounds away then maybe Duran could've earnt a decision because the judges had it very close......
I had Hagler beating him by two points, but two points over 15 rounds is tight. Very overdone when talk of "robbery" gets thrown about.
