Donald Curry, "Hall of Fame" worthy? Yes or No.

I miss Mr Bill.

 

Bill was a great fellow and i enjoyed his posts for sure.

 

What happened to him?

Another good poster who stopped posting was "Mr. Magoo."

 

We used to communicate via email but he disappeared. He Was also a cyber pal of Ted "the Bull" Sares who used to write here and post as Kid Blast.

 

Magoo disappeared a bit after i came back here. Not sure what happened with Bill but a lot (huge amount) of posters disappeared over a couple of years. You probably wouldn't believe the talent that was here in my initial years. It was sickening.

 

Ok. From memory Bill knew Larry Holmes on a first name basis and trained at his gym. Something like that i reckon.

 

This place is a graveyard compared to what it used to be, and I'm not necessarily saying it's terrible even now. It just used to be really, really good. Everyone was articulate, seemingly educated and well spoken, kind of weird to think about it now.

 

The place was INSANE. With no disrespect a guy like Matty Mac was originally a talented mid level poster bouncing stuff around with guys and look at him now - a world class scribe to say the least. Stonehands89 is now a world class boxing author. Back in the day these guys were just part of the collective. Manassa was immensely knowledgeable tho he did get a bit attached to certain fighters. The list is endless. Even with so many gone it's still a damn fine forum.

G'day Franklin, yep I used to really dig reading Mr Bill's posts. He was basically the same age as me n grew up watching the same fighters n reading the same magazines.

He was always a dispassionate n fair pundit as well.

I hope Ted is doing well too, he still pops up here n there around the boxing net.

Where tf is MRBILL, anyway? Last popped in around 2013, according to my mod binoculars.

He was my first ever ESB "buddy", considering he and I posted in the comments section on the old ESB main page articles for over a year before I even signed up for the forums.

I don't know. He had a great few years at welterweight and looked great, and then he sort of fell apart in ways most great fighters do not. Most greats like Hearns comeback and win title again and rejuvenate. You never saw Curry rejuvenate.

 

Donald Curry is officially in the IBHOF. Thank the Lord it's actually happened.

It only took seven years from when this thread was started.

A lot of less deserving guys got in in that time period.

But, it's all good now.

 

IB, (and all) I am sad to inform that MRBILL died last April......I have a mutual FB friend that he had heart issues and passed away. RIP....
