Rodriguez managed to hit Curry a fair bit for the short time the fight lasted so there was some writing on the wall. Curry should already have been at 154 by then

As for the HOF, why not? If Barry McGuigan made it in then Curry certainly does

Curry was reported to be 156 a day and a half prior to his '84 title defense against Marlon Starling. Curry hit the track / sauna and made 147 and beat Starling over 15 rds, but Curry's struggles with 147 was known in 1984...

Anyone recall Curry's '85 fiasco fight in Texas against James Green?

Curry supposedly thumbed Green early in rd. 2 and Green failed to continue... Lou Duva went nuts on referee Dick Cole... Duva was in Green's corner.... I taped that farce.... UGH!!

I'm stoked, on a chance I found my "Curry-Rosi" title fight from '88..:yep

    MR.BILL:hat

Rosi down numerous times in the bout fails to answer the bell for rd. 10....

Curry began getting into crazy, sloppy fights by that time with the likes of Tony Montgomery, Carlos Santos, and also Rosi. The Montgomery and Santos fights both ended in DQ's and the Rosi fight was sloppy as hell with lots of fouls. I think by then Curry's reflexs had dulled a bit and his tendency to lean in with his head left him open to headbutts. He did ultimately blast Rosi out though as I recall.

    MR. BILL,

On the Donald Curry vs. Eduardo 'Cheetah' Rodriguez.
Didn't Curry go down in the 1st Round.
It was ruled a slip by the Referee, but a replay showed he was hit, and it really was a legitimate Knock-down.

After further research by the Network, it was found that Rodriguez really had a
19-6-0 (12 KO's) record, and that he had been KO'd 5 times, all within 2 Rounds.

AHH!! The WBA and the Panamanian Connection,,,,,,

surprised with the responses! i thought it would be overwhelmingly against curry getting inducted

and mr. bill, from what i heard, they'd started discussions to jump straight to middleweight to challenge hagler when the honeyghan fight was signed. he considered lloyd an afterthought and frankly, a non-weight drained, peak curry could have beaten the 86-87 hagler

I'd say he is certainly on the level of Palomino and Cuevas who both made the IBHOF. In time he should make it.

I think 'The Cobra' just misses.

He had no business losing to Lloyd Honeyghan.
And his efforrt in that fight, was weak.
Up to that fight, the guy was flat out fantastic.
High expectations and the poor performance hurt him more than anything else.

He would miss if the IBHOF had higher standards. But being brilliant for a short amount of time is enough to get a fighter in.

YES When in his Prime the guy was a lethal wicked puncher and he could also box like a dream, the chin was also solid!! I'm and older cat so I watched him in his prime and back in those days people wanted him in against Leonard and many thought he could win.. Even well past his Prime he gave Nunn and Norris tough fights, huge Curry fan, if you haven't seen his KO of Milton McCrory I suggest you check it out its great!!

Yeah, by 1987 thru 1989, it appeared Curry had lost some timing and reflexes and his fights were sloppy or listless...

Curry was butted by Rosi around the 5th stanza or so and was cut badly above his right eye, but Curry kept the pressure on Rosi...

"McGuigan, Norton & Cuevas" are all inducted up in Canastota, N.Y.

Cuevas has 16 losses on his record...

McGuigan was WBA 126 lb. champ for ONE year...

Norton was KO'd or out-boxed in the majority of all his BIG fights...

Why not toss Curry into the mix?

Bowe was still active until 2008, so he has a few years to go.

As far as Curry goes, most writers that I talked to don't think he was good enough. I have voted for several years now, both in the Modern and Old-Timers Committees, and yes I did vote for Curry as one of my top 10 every year I have been on the Committee.

The way it goes is that they give you 45 modern names and you can pick up to 10, but they then pick the top 3 vote getters. In the old-timers, they give you 50 names, and you can pick up to 10 but again, they only pick the top 3 vote getters.
