Yes. But that was a lousy comeback trail that stunk dating back to 2004. Bowe was already sittin' in the glue factory in 1997 to 2004... MR.BILL:deal
Another reason why he hasn't gotten in is that the voters feel that there were at least 3 fighters each year more deserving. 2011 - Tyson, Chavez, Tszyu 2010 - Chang Jung-Koo, Danny Lopez, Lloyd Marshall 2009 - Lennox Lewis, Brian Mitchell, Orlando Canizales I wish that the Hall would list the amount of votes each fighter receives but they don't.
MR. BILL,,,, I can't put my finger on it,,,,,,,,,but something just seems to be missing on The Cobra's win ledger,,,,,,,,,,
Yes. He beat Marlon Starling twice, who himself was a two time champion. Unified the welterweight title with an easy aniliation of established co-champion Milton McCrory. The Honeyghan loss was largely due to extreme difficulty making 147 lbs. At junior middleweight, beat former champion Lupe Aquino easily. Won a second title by easily beating decent Gianfranco Rosi. Losses to exceptional fighters Michael Nunn and Terri Norris were at the end of his career, and not shameful losses. The loss to Mike McCallum, himself a great fighter, was competitive until the surprise ko. Only the loss to Renee Jacquot is really bad, and this was near the end of his career. To me, a guy who won two titles, beat some very good fighters, lost to some great ones deserves to be in the hall as much as a guy, Brian Mitchell, for example, who made alot of defenses, but faced much weaker competition.
I'm surprised he's not in. For how long has he been eligible ? Look, if McGuigan got in, not only should Curry be in, but Honeyghan deserves in too ! Maybe I don't understand the criteria used by the electors.
Bottom Line is: "The R&R, Academy Film Awards and IBHOF are all biased and rigged to satisfy the popular demand." It has gotten so BAD that I have lost interest in hearing the results. :-dead MR.BILL:hat
I was told that the ballots go to an independent firm. Like I stated, 70% of the voters in the modern category, are members of the Boxing Writers Association of America and the other 30% are International panel of boxing historians (I guess that is where I fit in). Here's what is up on their web site: Members of the Boxing Writers Association of America and an international panel of boxing historians cast votes. Voters from Japan, England, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Germany, Puerto Rico and the United States are among those who participate in the election process. An independent accounting firm tabulates the votes and the results are presented to the Hall. A news conference is held each year in December to announce the new class of inductees and the formal induction ceremony is held each year in June.
Hmmm.. Okay... STILL! One way or another, bias and corruption is involved. I'd like to know how old the average voter is.. A 45 to 55 year old man will vote for Don Curry, while a 25 year old probably will not... Who really knows? I also think some votes get tossed out and others get added behind closed doors, just like we do in politics... Something in the system stinks like a dead skunk in the basement...:dead MR.BILL:hat
MR. B,,,,,,,,, I watched Donald Curry from the beginning, on ESPN. Love the guy, The wins are all great,,,,,,,,,,, but the way he got those losses,,,,,,,,,,,?????? And the win over Gianfranco Rosi,,,,,was still a poor performance.
I think most of the voters are older, and I also think it is on the up and up. This year Ed Brophy the Director of the Hall called me up several days before the deadline, saying that he was informed that I didn't send in my ballot yet, But I told him that I just mailed it. Like I stated before, several members of the writers association have called me up over the years, asking for some help. I never would tell anyone who to vote for, but I would give them all the stats and information I have on all the candidates and then they would decide for themselves. I also know of a few very well known writers that didn't vote for Curry.
What has hurt Curry the most was his fighting in the 1990s... People tend to remember the tail-end of a man when it comes to voting... Curry's losses to "Nunn, Norris and Linton" basically ruined his fond memories... MR.BILL:deal
10-4. I saw / reviewed it 2X over the weekend... Curry was not sharp like a Ginsu at all... Rosi was strong, but awkward and falling down all over the place from slips and Curry punches.... A sloppy fight indeed... MR.BILL:bbb
