I posed this question to Cokes' mgr and he said Cokes would win a close fight. The key thing is the managers and trainers in the DFW area worked a lot of each other fights during mid-60's to mid-80's and Cokes was always held in high esteem because he was one of the first Texans to become a unified World Champion. So, Curry would be carrying this high regard of Cokes going into the fight.
Both very good textbook fighters and punchers, but Currys got the speed advantage here, being a counterpuncher vs someone faster (and like Curry) is never a great situation. Pretty even match but I would lean towards Curry
I'd give Curry the edge, but then I rate Curry very highly, at least at his best. I will admit to not seeing a hell of a lot of Cokes, but he earned a place in our ring annals when he fought and beat our own Willie Lu**** twice. Lu**** was a mediocre boxed but a hell of a puncher. In any event though, I'd fancy Curry to be a bit too good for Cokes.
Honestly, not being able to type a boxer's name out because of some ridiculous sensorship is pathetic.
