Don Curry. Forth Worth Texas, USA. Undisputed World Weltweright Champion - WBA / IBF / WBC. WBC Light Middleweight Champion. Over 400 amateur fights ............. Junior Olympics Champion Golden Gloves Champion World Cup Champion Denied the chance to fight in 1980 Olympic Games due to US Boycott. Down side.............. Stopped by Lloyd Honeyghan Knocked out by Mike McCallum How good was Curry - ? - how do you rate him in Welterweight / Light Middleweight history ?
Very good imo, he had a great counter left hook, threw with precision, was very poised in the ring, could body punch, was quick, not just of hand but reflexes. Weaknesses............did not look as comfortable against reckless types of fighters, as he could not calculate his offense as easy. Curry also fought on the inside too much in the latter part of his career imo.
I though he was very good. However, some people like to point out his ko loss to McCallum. IMO, McCallum was the most underrated fighter throughout the 80s. Duran, Hagler, Leonard, and Hearns never gave him a chance to show his greatness. Technically he was very good and tough. Curry was fighting a good fight against him before the one punch ko. Anyways Curry was a very good fighter.
was young at the time but can remember watching curry lose to honeygun and being astonished he'd lost. think for a while they thought curry was gonna be the next big superstar of boxing.
