If it does resemble the Sidorenko beatdown or anything even close to it, I'll give Nonito massive credit.

I hold Narvaez - even at 36 - in extremely high regard. Particularly as a crafty defender (who may have slowed a bit but has all sorts of tricks up his veteran sleeves, and a great chin to boot), so while Donaire should be favored to win it shouldn't necessarily be by any form of knockout (let alone destruction).

For those who think he's slipping, I don't know...he did comfortably beat the best opponent of his career at 35.

It's a fight nobody expected, but it's nothing to ":rofl:rofl:rofl" at.

    Credit to Donaire if victorious.

SHITLOADS of credit to Narvaez if he pulls the upset.

Not THAT comfortable, and I'd say Asloum was better than Seda.

This is a troll inducing post, but I'll restrain myself. :yep

Berto-Zaveck is a poop main event fight as well and I've never once advocated it. :good

IMO, if bantam weight fights are indeed gonna get spotlighted on an HBO main event, then only the highest stake fight ought to be considered; i.e. Donaire - Mares/Agbeko/Darchinyan.

It was a difficult night, but in terms of rounds it was a comfortable margin. The 9-3 sorecards were accurate, even though a lot of those rounds were competitive.

We'll have to wait and see how Seda's legacy pans out compared to Asloum's. I think he'll wind up looking better in the long run.

That is absurd. In fact, it's ass-backwards.

Boxers weighing above 147 lbs should be blacklisted from TV unless it's the best vs. the best.

The bottom half of the scale is MUCH more exciting and talent-laden.

Eh, I had it 7-5. Some people I know had it 6-6. 9-3 was a bit wide. I thought he won close but clear.

Huh. :think There was talk on the night of some Puerto Ricans throwing hissy fits and crying robbery, and it just seemed completely bizzare to me at the time. There didn't seem to be any way for it to be nearly close enough to have possibly given it Seda's way, and I just chalked it up to bitter blue-balls from him having Narvaez in some trouble in the 12th (which is all he got on my card besides 1 & 2, although I could see extending his early sweep to the third) but not managing to get him out before time ran up.

I attended a live card last weekend and the best fight of the night was a straw weight bout. I agree, the little guys tend to put on entertaining scraps. I just don't think that they ought to be the featured fights on HBO unless the best and most recognizable fighters are matched against each other.

Why? For what possible reason would you have that double standard against the lighter guys but cut the heavier ones more slack? :huh:huh

Because other than hardcore fans of the sport, nobody will care to watch. IMO, those precious HBO slots, (particlary the main events) ought to spotlight fights that have some chance resonating with the casual channel surfer which in turn will grow the sport. Considering that the smaller fighters have an inherent bias against them, It seems like an imprudent decision to make this a featured fight. Again, there are exceptions as I've already indicated. This fight however isn't one of them, imo.

I disagree. I've talked to many casual fans or even non-fans of boxing, who have commented "Yeah, I saw a couple of those little guys and MAN - they really went at it. Didn't know their names, though. :think".

The lower weights would bring boxing back to its former glory ON THEIR OWN if they were properly promoted. That bias - like any other long-overdue flaw in society's thinking - needs to be CHANGED, forcibly. You pull weeds, you don't garden around them.

Boxing isn't going to gain legions of casual fans in the 21st century with any heavyweight bout. Or super middleweight.

On the contrary, some of these Bantam weights have recently been well promoted. Mares/Agbeko/Darchinyan have all fought on American TV multiple times recently. It seems only natural for one of these guys to get the HBO date against Donaire considering that the casual channel surfer may have already come across them.

I agree that the lower weights should be getting more exposure. But considering that the room for error is far less because of the bias against them, it's got to be the right type of exposure. IMO, Donaire-Narvaez falls short of such.
