Donnie Nietes vs. Moises Fuentes II, 12 rounds @ light flyweight

 

Round 1

Nietes is ducking and sidling off, jabbing the waist. Fuentes comes forward leading with right hands, aiming down at the head of Nietes. Fuentes is walking forward, pumping double jabs and lunging with the right cross stepping forward. Nietes scoots back and collects shots on his forearms, squatting to roll back with them while still shuffling his feet. Body 1-2 by Nietes dropping and darting in low. Double jab under the guard by Nietes. Looping right on the backside by Fuentes, chasing Nietes out of the pocket. Diving clinch while flurrying on the waistline by Nietes. High jab and clapping right behind the ear by Nietes. Fuentes backs him off with a 1-2 and catches him with a cuffing right behind the head as Nietes is ducking and circling. 1-2 by Fuentes missing, slicing right at the body just grazing. Flurry up from a crouch by Nietes while circling, spraying the air with Fuentes holding back and watching.

Should it keep up like this we could get just as close & controversial a result as last time. (with nationalistic fans on either side insisting their guy deserved it while objective parties see it arguable either way)

 

Round 2

Nietes is jabbing and falling back. Fuentes jabs into Nietes' arms stepping forward. Nietes draws himself away, then slingshots in with a counter jab after letting Fuentes' slide up and off across his wrist. Nietes is stuffing all of Fuentes' jabs while hopping on the backfoot, flicking his own left out in patty-cake fashion. Fuentes is approaching with his fists bunched up by his chin, peering down at Nietes and looking to time his bouncy movements with a jab. Instead Nietes surprises him with a quick move forward, popping a very light jab that nonetheless scores flush on the nose and makes Fuentes blink and flinch. Nietes is walked into the ropes and waits, hunkering down and then springing up with a flurry and high-scything right uppercut while sidestepping a Fuentes 1-2.

Round 3

Nietes is staying just close enough to land jabs in bunches, short-hopping away with both feet coming slightly off the canvas as he draws Fuentes along on a leash. Fuentes is getting jabbed regularly all over his long face, his gloves failing to cover the entire surface area while his reflexive speed fails to bring them into position to pick anything off in time. Fuentes opts to just keep walking through Nietes' constant drizzle of jabs hoping to eventually trap him on the ropes and plant a big 1-2. It never happens.

Round 4

Nietes is squatting and jabbing the body, then rising and drifting left while slapping up a hook. Fuentes keeps leading with the depth-charge right, sending it down in the vicinity of Nietes' skull but not catching a clean piece of it. Nietes is leaving his left arm up centerline, flicking jabs into Fuentes' sternum, trachea and nose by turns and letting the arm hang suspended inanimate for a moment each time, disrupting Fuentes' rhythm and never letting him get set for the big 1-2 or clubbing right he is looking for. Nietes is moving, always back or to his left, able to keep Fuentes plodding along eating jabs with very little need to variegate his tact.

No different really from the size advantage relative to everybody in their division guys like Margarito, Segura, or Chavez Jr. have.

Fairly common practice among Mexicans especially, come to mention it. :think

 

Round 5

Nietes is jabbing and ducking, melting away, receding just as Fuentes gets close and starts lunging with straights or hooking out wide at the body. Nietes is briefly pushed into the ropes where Fuentes pounds on either hip with roundhouse lefts and rights swung in heavily but artlessly.

10-9 Nietes, closest since the 1st, body work of Fuentes improving but Nietes' defensive movement still keeping it from making a big impact.

50-45 Nietes

 

Round 6

Nietes is sitting back, putting his weight on his rear leg and swaying away from a Fuentes 1-2 before snapping up and in with his own fast counter 1-2 on the grill. Fuentes is throwing jabs at the body, mostly just to get a feel on range, and then slamming down with big right hands jumping in on Nietes. Clinch, Fuentes mauling Nietes and spanking him around the lats and kidneys. Nietes ducks away jabbing but doesn't get far before Fuentes is atop him again. Clinch. More banging on the sides by Fuentes. Very few legal blows as Nietes lowers his elbows and tucks himself up tight against Fuentes.

Round 7

Nietes is hopping in with the 1-2, then batting away Fuentes' counters with his left arm while stepping around. Nietes is using in and out movement to score light jabs on Fuentes' head and then either disappearing outside, decreasing altitude going in reverse, or diving in to ricochet off Fuentes while tossing up a high right hand. Fuentes getting in no body work, being toyed with.
