damn this movie was really fun!:happy:happy while vewing the info(and the ending credits which showed donnie yen rehearsing moves for the movie) it was obvious it was a mma type style based. I love donnie yen he is a fantastic action star! He should be far more popular here in america, but the american public has a history of being slow to accept asian martial artist. youtube trailer not in english but it really shows a lot of mma technique. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyOQw6YL93E[/ame] I just finished watching it on TMC, I have always loved donnie yen. has anyone else seen this movie or any other mma type action films? besides Ong Bak 2, I havent seen any movie that utilizes so many different fighting techniques on this level. never back down = gay fighting = gay I have yet to see Red Belt or undisputed 2, these are some other movies that people have suggested that have good mma style fights. lets discuss mma action films. ps. I like michael Jai white but in many of his films he never even uses his fighting skills ex the dark knight thick as thieves, Exit wounds ect
I don't think it has anything to do with the American public being slow to embrace martial arts movie stars - it has more to do with their level of exposure. Jackie Chan built up a rabid video store fanbase before he started getting re-releases (and eventually first-run releases, particularly of his Hollywood material obviously) in American theaters. Jet Li has always been popular. Tony Jaa has been on the verge of that same crossover success - there was a three year gap between The Protector and Ong Bak 2. He just needs to be more active. Donnie Yen - wow. He pulled a bit of a disappearing act. Of course the video store set knew him as the bad guy in Once Upon A Time In China II and the titular role in Iron ******, but he never quite made the transition like Chan or Li - or even Jaa. He stole the show in his first Western crossover role in Highlander: Endgame and all martial arts enthusiasts who saw the movie were all abuzz over him. Then...nothing. I literally haven't seen anything he's been in since.
both jet li and Jackie chan were not famous in the us for many years, but you do make a good point. so you havent watched flashpoint then, its quite good acton wise. found this on the internet. http://japancinema.net/2010/06/05/top-10-donnie-yen-movies/ I have seen 1/2 of these movies listed. what do you think about mma style movies, Flashpoint is probably the best I have seen though I've seen few, but I doubt too many compare to donnie yen's flashpoint.
yaca, try watching SPL too (Sha Po Lang). Donnie Yen vs. Wu Jing and Donnie Yen vs. Samo Hung. those 3 (Yen, Jing, and Hung) are on the top of my favorite martial arts-actors.
