I don’t recall ever seeing this one before and it just popped in my head. Both, of course, fought Mike Tyson twice and lost twice. And both lost to Lennox Lewis. There’s probably some other common opponents but I can’t think of them off the top of my head. Let’s make it for 10 rounds in Las Vegas so there’s no bias in judging or refereeing that might happen if it were in Canada or the UK. Who do you have winning? By what means? And why do you feel that way?
A very interesting clash! What is fascinating is Razor did better against Tyson while Frank did better again Lewis. Ruddock started as a pretty decent boxer but then became a crude slugger. While Bruno was never smooth he had some skills so if slugger Razor shows up and Frank keeps his head I could see him winning on points using his jab. The big if is what happens when the Smash lands? Can Frank hold on or will he unravel? It could be a little like the Bruno Lewis fight with Frank building a lead but crumpling as soon as a big shot tags him. Having said that Lewis was a much better fighter than Razor so I voted Frank on points to be patriotic!
Hopefully the fantasy promoter would hace arranged for live performances of “God Save the Queen” and “Oh Canada,” two of our finer national anthems.
I think Bruno outboxes him early but as soon as Ruddock lands "The Smash" that's all she wrote. I think Ruddock in his prime is a bit more durable and could win a shoot out vs Big Frank.
Ruddock was a scary guy at one point back then. Not sure Even Holyfield wanted to fight him. Ruddock really took it to Tyson, hitting him harder than he'd been hit since Buster. Not sure Frank wins this. Unless he gets him hurt early, I see Frank getting stopped in around 7.
The only prediction I’m willing to make is that it would be an exciting fight for however long or brief it lasted. These were two guys who had heart, great conditioning and could both punch. While I’m not sold on a winner, I can see arguments for it going either way
Frank was stronger IMO (and there aren’t many guys stronger than Ruddock) and when he kept his form and cool he had a tremendous jab and could set up his punches very well. Ruddock was a home-run swinger from the word go. I figure Frank builds up a lead but seems to me he would lose steam along the way and that’s where a somewhat battered Razor makes his move. He finally hits home with that smash for a KO around the ninth.
