my money is on razor ruddock.....that smash hitting marciano while hes comin in......... if archie moore puts marciano down......ruddock would keep him down.... razor ruddock 5 rds tko over rocky marciano.:smoke:smoke:smoke
razor ruddock did not make the grade in his own lifetime, why would he make the grade in the 1950s? to realy shine ruddock would have to get past the likes of elmer ray, old louis, bivins, curtis shepperd, nino valdes, rex layne, charles, moore, satterfield, bob baker, harold johnson. marciano beat the guys who beat all those guys. remember ruddock was knocked out by david jacco!! was jacco and tommy morrison a cert against all those guys?
This looks like one of those threads that you get from time to time on internet message boards where someone with an anti Marciano agenda wheels out a big powerful modern era heavyweight and uses said powerful modern era heavyweight, combined with the Walcott and Moore knockdowns, and Marciano's relative lack of size as "proof" that Marciano wasn't that good really, and he couldn't really hang with powerful modern era heavyweights. Baloney, IMO. It's been done to death with the usual suspects of Shavers, Lyle etc in the virtual opposite corner to Rocky...now it's Ruddock's turn. Rocky wins a hard one. Too physically tough, too mentally tough, too game, with a physical strength unnatural for a man of his size, the ability to fight all night until the other man is either physically or mentally broken (or both), power that is plenty enough to hurt Ruddock, and the ultimate winning mentality. IMO.
Interesting fight, i see it similar to the Tyson fights, Marciano would work the body for the first few rounds, afterwards Ruddock would be out of steam and only his chin would keep him upright at the end of the fight as he gets battered pillar to post. But it depends on how Rock takes Ruddocks punch.
Fair enough anut, no offence intended and I apologise if my comment offended you. It's just that you get so many threeads of this nature, I do sometimes wonder about the hidden agenda of some authors of threads of this type! :good
Good question, big question! I think heavyweights have evolved so much that transporting guys like Marciano & Dempsey to the modern era when the heavyweights as big as they are today (and I mean the huge ones like Lennox & the Klitschkos) is asking a lot of the old timers. As a parellel I liken it to the 100 metres...I'm not sure of the exact times, but I'm sure Jesse Owens would struggle to get to the Olympic 100m final in his basic shoes, track, worse diet etc of his time. But if he was a modern runner, I'm sure he'd be competitive with the likes of Carl Lewis, Maurice Greene & even Usain Bolt. H2H I honestly think guys the size of Dempsey & Marciano would struggle with top quality, technically gifted boxer/athletes the size of Lennox & the Klitschkos. P4P I take Marciano over the LL & the Klitschkos. With a level playing field...Marciano is top 3 for me with Louis and Ali.
