theres 2 ways of looking at comparing marciano, louis and dempsey with modern fighters.there just pairing the likes of rocky and lewis or saying if rocky was born 28 years ago how big and fast would he be now. well thats how i look at it anyway otherwise as you say the old timers would lose every time
I don't think necessarily that the old timers would lose every time, but that the modern guys have all the modern advantages, and people these days tend to be naturally bigger, healthier and stronger, if they adopt the right lifestyle. I believe that a modern era Marciano, probably circa 15 1/2 stone would defeat any Lennox Lewis (and I'm a Lewis fan), would praobably stop Vitali over 15 rounds, and would spark Wladimir. IMO!
if marciano were 15 1/2 stone then yes he'd beat lewis but not at 13 1/2. i'm a lewis fan too.him and ali are 1 and 2 in my opinion. if joe louis was a 25 year old these days and weighing 16 stone nobody gets a sniff.
Agree re 13.5 stone and 15.5 Marciano v Lewis. Not sure about LL & Ali 1& 2...can't agree on everything. Absolutely agree re 16 stone Louis. Overall, I think in a level playing field Joe Louis is my number 1 heavyweight...ever. Not perfect, but who was?
i would think there isn't 2 posters who would have the same top 10.you're right about there not being a perfect fighter, even ray robinson had his flaws.
the left hook on fullmer was spectacular to say the least.i've asked the wife to get me pound for pound at xmas, its a brilliant film
I've seen the pound for pound film I think...I'm sure I had it on VHS somewhere... Yep...I like the quote after the Fullmer fight...alledgedly Fullmer asked why the fight was stopped...apparently his trainer answered "the ref counted to 10...they tend to stop the fight when they do that" I'm paraphrasing, but it went somethong like that!
