Donovan ruddock v George foreman 1991 who wins ?

Ruddock was a bit overrated. He had a great left hook which might have been given more credit because of the Dokes fight, but he could punch. I just think he folded when met anyone good who could punch himself. Foreman would stop him in 4 or 5.. Great fight.

 

Well Ruddock in my eyes was controlling the action and setting the pace. I'll have to watch it again. Against Foreman, Morrison landed on him at will. He boxed Foreman because it was so easy. Ruddock-Morrison was faster paced with each man scoring a knockdown before that left hook nailed Ruddock in the 6th. An action fight similar to Lewis-Briggs where Foreman-Morrison was similar to Foreman-Briggs in that regard.

I've seen Morrison state that Ruddock was more dangerous and felt he had to stand his ground, where against Foreman all he had to do was box. Some say he ran against Foreman but to me he was landing in the pocket, just like Alex Stewart did.

 

You can't believe everything Foreman says. 330 lbs is a great fairytale, though.

Not as overrated as Comeback Foreman.

Tyson didn't even stop Ruddock within 5. I know for a fact Foreman would be the one in trouble here. He'd hurt Ruddock but I doubt stops him.

 

Ok, just finished watching Ruddock-Morrison. Ruddock was controlling and dominating Morrison. Both men suffered knockdowns but after 4 rounds Morrison was gasping for air and Ruddock looked like he had the fight in his hands. He hurts Morrison in the 5th and in the 6th hurts Morrison badly, chases after him and gets tagged with a left hook from hell. Ron Lipton stops the fight with Ruddock arguing and may have been a bit premature.

Who was Ruddock's trainer? I know Ruddock became a headhunter later in his career but the dude didn't throw a single jab until halfway in the 3rd and constantly loaded up the Smash the entire fight. Despite all this it looked like Ruddock was dominating with Morrison ready to go.

I'll have to watch Foreman-Morrison later tonight or tomorrow when I can.

 

That stoppage made no sense. Either stop it at the left hook or don't. Stopping it while a winded Morrison missed some punches was dumb.

 

It would be a heck of a fight because Ruddock had a little bit of power. That Dokes knock out was impressive.

 

This one really peaks my interest. I was a massive Ruddock fan back in the 90’s when he started making noise. I was also a rather big fan of Foreman. I’ve ran this one hypothetically thru my mind on many occasions.

One thing that keeps bothering me as far as responses I’m seeing.

1. RUDDOCK - MORRISON - I was in contact with a guy who worked in the camp with Razor before that fight and he said Razor barely trained as you can see he is grossly out of shape, not to mention he was completely washed at that point, yet he still almost beat Tommy. So that fight has ZERO to do with Ruddock - Foreman 1991.

Foreman probably had hit his comeback peak around the Rodriguez fight. That Foreman was a dangerous fight for most in the division. Foreman had a telephone pole jab, great physical strength, Great ring knowledge, and second career knowledge about how to pace himself. His uppercuts on the inside were nasty.

Ruddock was avoided. And say what you will about the versions of Michael Dokes and Bonecrusher Smith that he defeated but both guys were definitely still very good fighters at that time. Dokes was heavier than against Holyfield but he looked rock solid at the weight. Smith likewise was always a big man with a big punch and he hit Ruddock hard enough to knock him sideways yet Razor got up and stopped Smith face down OUT which was tough to do back in the day as BoneCrusher had an iron Chin.

Man this is a tough one do we think Foreman can whether the heavy punches of Ruddock that’s the question?

I think Razor hurts George early and often and forces the refs hand late to stop a swollen and bloody Foreman from continuing. I could see Foreman landing the eraser and ending Ruddock but Razor was tough as nails and took tons of punishment from Tyson and still was standing after 12 rounds with a broken jaw.

as stated in the title the 91 Razor, prior to the two wars with Mike Tyson, after that his punch resistance was not the same and Forman would knock him out. I read an interview where Razor stated that he was never the same after the Tyson fights, that Tyson “broke something inside of him” that’s an exact quote from him.

I agree. Ruddock vs Foreman is one of those fantasy fights holding tremendous interest with 1991 being the perfect year to match them up. Both guys missed out on some really good match ups and you can pit either guy with those 90's power hitters with guaranteed fireworks. Some really great slugfests that could have been.

 

Or maybe just maybe his punch resistance went because he was hit high on the head with a chopping right hand from a big puncher......

 

It would have been good. Actually when Mike picked Ruddock to fight I thought that is gutsy fight to pick for Mike. And Ruddock landed his left hook on Mike. Then they fought another 2 times I think. Tough fight for Mike. That is when he mentioned he punches like a mule kicks.
