Nope :-( I'll still be suprised if Dirrell wins :bart The intangible element is Dirrell is a priss cake. For all his hand speed, foot work, athleticism and boxing skill he's about as intimidating as a manicured poodle. He looks to me like he needs hug from mommy in between rounds. Ward on the other hand is quiet and reserved yes but with a steely eyed cut throat takin' care of business approach. I know they are friends which will probably keep Ward from beating Dirrell up too badly :smoke
By watching them fight. Ward steals rounds by getting punches off and clinching/headbutting before his opponent punches back. He is skilled at what he does but he can be out boxed by someone who won't let themselves be bullied and fight upright and on the move. Hatton bullied people in a similar way but came unstuck and out of ideas against a superior boxer. Dirrell has better footwork than Ward, just as quick, and if he can move around like he did against Abraham he has a decent chance of outboxing Ward. It's just a matter of showing a lot of heart to not get sucked into fighting Ward's type of fight. Dirrell is a more pure boxer so if he doesn't let himself get bogged down by Wards tactics he will beat him imo.
Ward is the man in this situation and Dirrell is the boy. The only time the boy beats the man is when the man is old or the boy becomes a man as well. And Ward isn't old. And Dirrell will probably never be a man. Unless Dirrell catches Ward with something hurtful, i don't see him winning. We've seen what happens when you crowd Dirrell--he does what Green tried to do: hold. And he's nowhere near as good at it as Green is. Ward knows this, and he'll make this another inside fight. Ward could probably out-skill Dirrell with an in-and-out amateur style as well, but why risk it and give Dirrell punching space? My prediction is Ward smothers Dirrell as much as he can and pulls out a UD, though Dirrell will pick up some of the early rounds. OR...Dirrell wilts under the pressure and gets stopped late, say the 11th or 12th round.
Dirrell will beat Ward and it wouldn't surprise me if he knocks him out. Dirrell is alot longer and that's just going to make it really difficult for Ward to do what he does.
I think the smart money will be on Ward, his physical crowding/clinching style will make Dirrell very uncomfortable. He's proven to be an excellent boxer/spoiler and Dirrell didn't handle Froch's physical bullying too well either.
It might be the most interesting fight of the tournament. Inside fight, Ward wins. Outside fight, Dirrell might be very impressive. Very, very interesting match-up. I'm not counting on either man in this one.
Actually, after last night, I not only wouldn't be surprised, I expect it. Ward looked awful to me. Dirrell is going to outbox him more comprehensively than people expect, I think.
I think, though ill be doing a bit of homework and dusting up a bit before the fight, but i think as of now i will be picking Dirrell to win a UD. I dont think hes as mentally weak as many say (though i will agree he doesnt have the metal of ward) and i think he brings his own arsenal and skillset, with a bigger physical talent, and i expect him, as of now, to get a SD or UD against Ward. We will see, damn i cant wait.
dirrell is by far!!! the best technican and the fastest fighter at the super six (i think he is the fastest fighter from junior middle to light heavy) he is only mentally very weak. but if he has enough confidence, he will outclass ward and win a fair ud. the only fighter to beat dirrell will be a huge puncher who could land some shots, abraham ( i only see him beating dirrell)
