http://www.boxinginsider.com/columns/pay-per-view-figures-dont-believe-everything-you-hear/ Very interesting stuff ..So in order for Showtime to make a profit on MW -Canelo it has to do around 2.5 .I highly doubt it reaches those numbers .
Makes some solid points wether you believe it or not its up to you ..But aside from that Alverez wasn't that well know outside of the latin community ,should we not believe that ?
Floyd doesn't really care what the PPV numbers are at the end of the day. He got his guarantee and which was record breaking.
I just hope PPV goes away no way should the public be forced to pay such ridiculous prices for a fight based on the deals made by these promoters !
That's true only if the reach a certain PPV number. With a guarantee that shattered the previous......SHO is praying they hit a home run with this one! Floyd is sitting on easy street right now.
So we should believe that Showtime put together an event where they would have to sell more PPVs than ever before, at a much higher price, just to make a profit? This really makes sense to people?
The reason its hard for me to believe that SHO wont make a profit unless it breaks the record is because.... Doesn't anyone think that the execs sat and crunched the numbers over this? Its just very hard to believe that a bunch of businessman put on a show that wont net a profit for them (after they just lost money on their last one) unless it breaks the all time ppv record for buys. That makes almost zero business sense, and I find it hard to believe that's the case.
The guy who wrote this article can't add. 2 mill buys at 65$ = 130mil+20 mil at gate+? money from Closed circuit and movie theaters. Minimum of 151 mill at 2.0 mil ppv buys. Total payout to all fighters was 52 mil or close to that. Where does the other 100 million go?
The smartest guys in the board room sometimes makes the biggest mistakes.I suspect the real bosses of Showtime(at CBS) are keeping a very sharp eye on the enormous spending that Showtime is accruing. Somebody's head will be on the chopping block if this Mayweather deal doesn't pan out and it doesn't look like it will.
