These fights being on pay per view is a disgrace. Mayorga and Vargas forgot when they last won a fight (both coming off knockout loses) and the are 5 years past their primes (even in their primes they were not so good). Why should I give my hard earned money to the pocket of an idiot named Mayorga who is a club fighter and respects nobody. As for Jones-Trinidad: Jones is a disgrace for ducking Glen Johnson and fighting a guy two divisions below him who lost every minute of every round in his last fight to a 160 pounder. Both are also 5 years past their primes. Jones earned so much money for fighting bums in his career, so he doesn't deserve neither our hard earned money, nor our respect. I know a lot of people will still buy the fights but if I convinced one guy here not to buy them, it was worth starting this thread.
Im definatly gonna see Vargas/Mayorga. This promises to be a slugfest, much more entertaining than either of this years "big" fighter dlh/pbf bhop/wink.
i watch boxing not to just watch p4p'ers run around the ring, i watch to see fights. Vargas vs Mayorga should be a good fight between two former champions, and is the last fight of vargas's career, so most vargas fans should get it. Also... as for Vargas vs Mayorga, they didnt want to put it on ppv, but there are no available time slots on tv.
Not really. Theres a lot of fighters that would try to avenge a defeat then go after a payday. They are the warriors of the sport. Mosley, he could have fought Hoya for another mega payday and lets be real, he beat him twice already why not a third time... instead he fought winky.
Not every interesting fight has to be between two great fighters at their absolute best. I like watching a competitive fight, between two talented boxers. boxing is about proving who is the absolute best - Tough man in the world, so even if these two fights don't mean a thing to the P4P ranks, the people involved make it interested. 4 once good, entertainnig fighters meeting eachother in the ring. Honestly, boxing doesn't have to be taken to seriously. It's just fun. Sit back and enjoy 4 men prove themselves against other top class fighters and stop worrying about the state of boxing or whatever. By the way, Kirk, are you off to the Vargas fight, mate?
I'm definitly going to watch both fights, i'm especcially interested in mayorga Vargas, that could be an all out war. But i won't spend a penny on it, only bandwith.
Have a nice time, man :good Should be a good fight. Regardless of who wins, I hope he looks good. I like both men and think they are good for the sport. I doubt they both look good, but it'd be great if they did. If Vargas sorts his self out, I'd like him back in the 154lbs division, though that isn't too realistic.
I hear ya! That is about the only fight that was available to me that I didn't order in at least the last year or so (I even ordered Briggs/Iggy). I'm always glad to watch fighters fight, but there does seem to be a sort of old timers circuit pay per view thing in full force lately, possibly off the #'s PBF/Oscar pulled. All that can be asked is that if pay per view is the only way to get your show out there, 1 make damn sure to be exciting, 2 put on a good undercard ffs, and 3 if you're a part of the "old timers or rich boy clubs" try to not let the fight apear as if you're not trying to hurt one another. "cough-PBF/Oscar-cough":rasta
It is always a shame when fights barely suitable for ESPN become PPV.While one has to pay to see Jones Tito and Mayorga Vargas, Taylor and Pavlick will be shown free on HBO.But if enough people spend on these frivilous , meaningless PPV events, how long will it be before any title fight or elite match up will be 50 bucks or more?
I agree paying to see any of these guys is ridiculous. These guys should be fighting on HBO or Showtime not on PPV.
