I just watched the Calzaghe vs Kessler superfight again and I really don't think
Ward, Bute or Froch could have done better against a prime Calzaghe!

Kessler did a fantastic job going to Wales against 50.001 people i Cardiff...
Calzaghe never gave Kessler the rematch in Denmark as he really deserved...
That only tell me that Kessler had the great Joe Calzaghe in trouble!
I had Kessler winning round 1,4,7,12... and round 5 and 8 very close... Joe takes the rest (116-114 for Calzaghe)
Think the judges gave Calzaghe a little to much against the WBA/WBC dobbelt worldchamp: Mikkel Kessler

Some people in here are saying that Kessler i a punchbag and Calzaghe wasen't that good!:-((
But the way I see it Kesslers loss to Calzaghe and win over Froch is much bigger then all Bute's matches!
Calzaghe would beat Ward any day :bbb
Kessler has Traveled to Australia,Germany,GB,And the US of A to defend his titels..
Who have seen headbutting Andre Ward or Bute outside their home?

    What do you think?

The 3 times World Champ Kessler will be back late 2011 :thumbsup

Everybody with a brain cell between their ears knows Joe is better than Ward or Bute. Whether they improve is something only time will tell but right now watching them in the ring they have one style and have shown none of the ringmanship or skillset Joe has.

Bute is a quick southpaw and a very good one. Bue quick hands and feet vs quick hands and feet and experience and stamina and slickness is a no no.

Ward likewise, would buckle when Joe uses he feints and footwork to bedazzle him while staying on the outside and using his reach and workrate to get the win.

Calzaghe = best SMW ever. Hopkins, Jones, Eubank, prime Kessler, Bika. Nuff said. Haterz gonna hate.

Kessler was an excellent fighter when healthy. Its a shame he competed in the S6 when not at full health.
Kesslers confidence never seemed the same after Calzaghe beat him, but his fighting heart can never be questioned. Ive read so many posts raving about fighters being willing to travel, but as many forget Kessler -
    Australia to fight Mundine
    Wales to fight Calzaghe
    Joakland to fight Ward
    Germany to fight Haussler

I had Calzaghe a clearer winner than you did, but Kessler is an underated outstanding fighter who deserves full credit as a 2 time WBC and 2 time WBA champ.
No active SMW has a better SMW resume than Kessler at this time

Just finished watching Kesslers fight with Calzaghe, the difference time can make is amazing, especially a couple of instances where Joe rushes his work and Mikkel counters with right hands, hes lost the ability to time his punches with precision and speed probably due to age, he looked very sharp against Joe.

    I had 116-112 Calzaghe.

Kessler is a warrior no doubt about it, gave Calzaghe nightmares until he changed tactics and began to pull ahead, Kessler kept at it, never gave up, however the advice he received from his corner was all wrong "keep up the pressure, he'll tire"

Anyone who watched Calzaghe knows he could fight at that speed for 20 rounds never mind 12.

I always liked Kessler. I remember thinking he didn't have much of a chance against Calzaghe. He fought a a pretty good fight but simply lost to a better fighter. I hope gets back in the game soon.

The book is still largely unwritten on both Bute and Ward. I think both guys have skills that can take them far.

Well said mate! I do think Calzaghe broke Kessler's spirit. He just hasn't been the same since that lose. I feel the Kessler from that night would have beat Ward, or anyone in the Super Six. But he doesn't seem to be the same fighter anymore. Who knows maybe the time of will do him good. I like Bute, he seems to have the goods, very talented and heavy handed but he still has yet to prove it against top opponenets. And he seems a bit chinny as well. Ward definitely has that mean streak in him which I think has easily carried him over his opponents so far. And he definitely is talented. But long live King Joe, he'd beat any of them, any day...

Well said! Kessler does have the best resume of any active SMW and in his prime he'd be difficult for anyone to deal with (except Calzaghe)

Only morons talk Kessler down. The guy paid his dues and fought the best. If he retired permanently today, he's had a very good career.

It was a good fight but I had Joe ahead the whole way through.

I think Bute or Ward would have done better than Kessler. Bute probably drops him hard and gets his points that way, while Ward probably ****s with Joe and plays chippy billygoat until Joe finds his rhythm and starts taking rounds away.

I think Bute brings cleaner, sharper, harder punching than Kessler, personally. I think Bute might have a chance, then again he might get Lacy'd.

Kessler is a good boxer but he was never #1 and it seems he will never be #1. I dont think he will improve as a boxer, his skill will only diminish with age.
