5 solid years??? Can I hold you to that statement??

So you think he'll be a dynamo fighter until he's at least 38???

Let me make this simple for you---in the last 6 months (including this upcoming fight this weekend,) Kovalev will have fought Hopkins and Pascal.

Those 2 fights alone EASILY trumps what GGG has done his ENTIRE career as a professional.

He can't get big fights at MW against no namers like QUillin or Lemieux?? Ok than, go up to 168 and fight one of those top notch name guys or take on Lara who also looks like he's very game for the opportunity and is a bigger name than most of the MW's now.. I mean didn't it come out of Loefller and Sanchez' mouth that GGG wipes the floor with everyone from 154-175???

OK than enough BS talk from his handlers; it's time to attempt to back up that absurd statement.

They only fight twice a year, and are the biggest stars in boxing by far. At this stage of their career, they only want to maximze their PPV revenue, and doing so by fighting on 2 dates against 2 solid fighters will do so. Lets be honest as well, if both of those guys fight more than two times, it risks them losing to one of those fighters, which would hurt their legacy and diminish PPV numbers in their next fight.

Last year Kovalev fought 3 times. Once was destroying Hopkins, which was a great win. The others were Agnew and Caparello, who mean close to nothing to the LHW division (Agnew was an unproven "fringe contender"). I'd rather have seen him fight someone more meaningful than Agnew or Cap then to face both Agnew and Cap instead... So there's a balance.

Actually more likely so, their not many great fighters at LHW for him to fight after Pascal. I mean is Adonis going to leave Showtime, just to get creamed by Kovalev? or is he and Haymon going to let themselves make money fighting cans and for Adonis to then retire champion.

    That's BS

Danny Garcia took on Rod Salka and he's still receiving extreme vitriol for that "stay busy" fight.

At least in Danny's case he's not going around everywhere calling himself the boogeyman and most avoided fighter. He's a champion and he knows as a champion he shouldn't be taking on garbage, lower tier fighters like Rod Salka.

Don't see how Willie Monroe is any different from a Salka type.

One loved fighting cans, and one is a coward for not fighting Triple G.

They have declined though, on more than one occasion.

His handlers have also pressed for fights against Quillin who is beholden to Showtime though. Lara isn't even exclusive to that network like Quillin is.

Look at Chad Dawson. There were no big names at LHW at the time he decided to fight Ward. He went down a division to take on the best possible opponent.

I mean I don't understand why GGG gets some kind of free pass from people to continually take on GARBAGE fighters. Who wants to see him fight guys where everyone already knows who's going to win before the match even occurs.

I'm disappointed with him and his ****py management team. The guy isn't a 25-26 year old stalwart like a Lomanchenko. He's 33. Time is definitely of the essence.

And at least in Loma's case, from his very first pro fight, he's dared to be GREAT.

Stevonson, Mayweather, Wladimir all are 37 and above and are champions and still look great. Here's the thing Pascal and Hopkins WANTED to fight Kovalev and were willling to take the risk. Funny how people hate Lara and the way he boxes, next thing you know he's like the best thing since sliced bread. BTW he fights on Showtime.

Monroe only loss is to the same guy who beat Stevenson, and it was quite a while ago. He recently won a tourney and beat another fringe contender in the actual weight class.

Monroe certainly is not the second coming of Hagler, but to compare him to Salka-Garcia fight is extremely insulting to him and the sport.

Garcia doesn't even want to fight guys who I think he would beat like Postol, plus Garcia only fights twice a year. I'm not saying he is, but when guys are avoiding you and you want to fight more than twice a year, then you have to take these fights.

Lara isn't the name Quillin is, and has never before looked at as wanting to fight Triple G.

    Yes, very true.

But when you consider that Garcia/Salka was not paraded around as a "title fight" and then also factor in that 97% of folks thought Garcia was coming off a loss to Herrera, dropping the "rank" and "class" of Garcia from where he was post-Matthysse-fight, essentially making the Salka fight a true "tune up," the comparison isn't quite as dramatically bad of a comparison as you make it sound with your last statement.

Lets just say Monroe is the kind of truly expected and acceptable opponent you would see next if Golovkin had won a split decision robbery over Murray rather than beating him the way he did.

You're from the same area I'm from (I grew up on the upper East Side Manhattan.) Kid Chocolate is currently fighting out of Brooklyn.

NO ONE KNOWS WHO THE HELL PETER QUILLIN IS OUTSIDE OF HARDCORE BOXING FANS. NO ONE KNOWS WHO THE HELL HE IS IN BK. HIS NAME IS NOT BIGGER THAN LARA AT ALL.

At least Lara received some fame from fighting Canelo who's arguably one of the most popular fighters currently in the sport.
