Throwing twelve punches a round whilst circling the ring constantly? Look, I am not hating that performance.. but if you're criticizing Wladimir for his efficient style, you ought to be at the very least treating David Haye with some of the same dose. Wladimir - Ibragimov was even better than that fight between Haye - Valuev, and that was Ibragimov running, Valuev was plodding forward in straight lines.
Sultan didn't try to fight: he just leaned way back all night. Wlad should have got a knockdown when the ropes kept Sultan from going down. But Wlad should have gone after him hard and didn't. Big mistake. But it happens. Lennox didn't try to put Tua down, either, and that was a very boring title fight. Valuev and Haye was mostly just Valuev chasing Haye around the ring. Manny and Wlad have made all the right noises about stepping it up and getting Peter out of there, so I will wait and see.
I wasn't assigning blame, friend. I just don't find one-sided fights interesting. If you do, great. But I don't.
That's true. But I'm not exactly sold on Haye as a cure for the Klitschko monotony. His fight against Ruiz was okay, but mostly because of Ruiz. The hugger man finally decided to fight and he actually pressed the action. His fight against Valuev was the boxing equivalent of a turkey dinner and a bottle of red wine. And the Barrett fight was nothing to write home about either--two extremely sloppy boxers swinging for the fences. Maybe he'll show us something more against Audley. Who knows?
Total domination doesn't tend to create drama. It's like watching Roger Federer roll over people in tennis with no competition (until Nadal came along). I find Federer very boring unless he's playing Nadal, but I don't deny that Federer is a great player and a winner. Wlad hasn't lost in almost 6 years, and winning comes before anything else. Losers don't get rich and famous.
If Haye is as serious as he seems to be about retiring in a year, he's not going to be the cure for much, as he'll only have maybe 2 fights left.
I mean, maybe he's not serious about retiring, but he sure seems to be. Given that the Harrison fight isn't going to do much but make him some money, he will have two fights to make his legacy at HW. He would have to fight and defeat both Klitschko brothers to make that work at all. But will he even sign to fight one of them?
I should add that I enjoy watching the Klitschkos fight regardless. I just understand that for some fans, they often don't provide enough drama. But so much of that is because they are too good for the field.
