Yea.....that was definitely an inaccurate comment about JP. He's NOT GREAT! But he's a very good fighter. Not that beating JP for anyone else would have been a HUGE feather in their cap like it is for Nard, but not everyone is 47 yrs old figthing at the highest level either.
Hopkins is a legend. Pascal is a world class fighter but Hopkins is just on an extremely elite level that we rarely see in the sport. The smartest fighter I've ever seen and will ever see.
Most of that is INSTINCT at this point....You can't really teach or learn that kind of craft. Nard feels fighting....he knows when to do or not do something in that ring to get the most out of his ability. He truly is a legend in the game.
Bernard put on a masterpiece last night and given that he beats Chad Dawson then Bute and maybe a retirement fight with young Ward to pass the torch hue is in the top 5 dead or alive !!!!
This coming from the cat that has Manny's nuts tatted on his chin, at least BHop had the ****ing sack to fight a young prime champion, when did Manny last do that? Nevermind that, bottom line the man went into the hometown of a young prime champion and beat his ass for his title. I agree that Pascal is "****", and have said as much multiple times, that being said he was "the guy", and Hopkins beat "the guy" in "the guy's" hometown and did so clearly. He did it at 46 years old, and is the oldest champion in history...what's to overrate, I mean it's never been done before, no big deal.
JP isn't **** man..... There's a lot of boxers who could be given that title, but not JP. He was just out of his league.
I don't disagree about Hopkins, but it doesn't change the fact that Pascal is overall very lackluster as a fighter, and when he and Dawson fight you will see that he's not quite as "Elite" in terms of right now, as Pascal allowed him to look.
I think Chad beats JP as well but that don't mean it will be a cake walk. Especically not after Chads performance last night. I will say Chad was working on a few things that Manny Stewart was probably teaching him so he could have been a little off based on the transition....but JP is a top LHW for a reason. It's not the strongest divsiion but it's alright. Chad and JP are talented guys....and you got men like Ward and Bute who are one division away....so there's a lot of potential for this division.
He's not **** compared to regular cats off the street, he's not **** compared to other B class fighters, but in terms of being on an Elite level he never has been, and probably never will be. He "looks" like he should be a bad ass, he has great speed and strength, but dude he didn't land double digit punches in any round...like what? You are young and in your prime and allow Bernard ****ing Hopkins to "outwork" you? Say what you want about Pascal, you are entitled, but I believe the cat is shitty and would get his ass beat against any A level fighter.
Again.....perspective is KEY. In the LHW division JP is one of the BEST this era has to offer and Nard made him look like an AM fighter. JP is world class....maybe he's not an ELITE level fighter like Nard is but there's really only a hand full of boxers who can claim that to be true. Styles absolutely makes fights. THe difference between JP and Joe C with regards to their performances against Hopkins is that Joe had a lot more experience and a style that took advantage of Hopkins disadvantages that come with being old. JP needed the right style to beat Hopkins and MORE expericne. He wasn't busy enough to make the 46 yr old experience problems like Joe was able to give Nard. "A" Level in the LHW division may mean something competley different than "A" level with regards to where boxing is overall. Again....Nard is really the ONLY LHW who is on the ELITE level at the moment. Chad's not although he's very talented as well.
