I have been very lucky to have an inside source pertaining to Ward. A long time and very good friend of mine has sparred Ward since before they both turned pro. I have been lucky enough to meet and speak with Ward several times, though not since he's been a world champion, but I believe the opportunity will be coming again shortly as they should likely be sparring again soon.

I have told the story once or twice on ESB of a private sparring session that I was very privileged to attend one day at King's Gym. Forgive me if I mentioned it to you before, but I don't recall having done so. Anyway, my friend (cruiserweight) brought me along on a Saturday, a Saturday that I woke up depressed on due to the fact that there were no fights on that night, to watch him spar with Ward, Nick Diaz (MMA) out of Stockton, and Brandon Gonzales out of Sacramento. They all sparred each other round robin style, but Ward went 12 rounds straight, alternating each guy 4 rounds a piece. Keep in mind that other than Nick Diaz (who's not a terrible boxer or anything, just not a full time boxer), these guys CAN fight. I was the only one in the gym who was neither a fighter nor trainer. Hell, Nick Diaz didn't even have a trainer with him.

Long story short: It was ****ing AMAZING!

Ward had impressed me long before that day, as I had already seen him beat down some bad, bad mother****ers many a times. But that particular day, he fought the best 12 rounds I have yet to see him fight. It was before the Miranda fight. It more than made up for the empty boxing schedule that night.

As for DonYil, apparently the above mentioned friend was roommates with him during either the Olympic trials or possibly a Golden Gloves tournament back in 2004 or so. Due partially to the fact that DonYil lives in San Diego (or within the vicinity, but not local to me like Oakland is), I personally don't know enough about him to answer your inquiry, but I have heard very good praises.

However, I can safely give you a heads up on Brandon Gonzales.....look the hell out! It is widely known around the bay area boxing community that Brandon lit Kessler up something fierce when Kessler landed in Sacramento prior to his fight with Ward. I mentioned this to IB once before, as he once made an inquiry along these lines.

 

She totally strikes me as the dominatrix type.
