1.How fast should I be able to run 2 miles if I want to have amauter bout?

Is there any substitute to doing roadwork?

I don't think speed is necessarily an indicator of fitness; there are different kinds of running to do; although I'd say 18 minutes would be a good start off. All the running in the world as fast as you want won't make up or take the place for sparring and learning to be calm and not have an adrenaline-induced fatigue, as someone from my club unfortunately learned last night.

Hey man, I know you have trouble getting fights, have you ever thought about taking the trip down to the DC area to pick some up? They're having a Golden Gloves event every weekend for like the next month down in the PVA.

When you are doing roadwork is not about speed but about endurance...then time you spend running is far more inmportant than the time you make per mile..a pace between 7 and 9 minutes a mile still acceptable for roadwork, as long as your an doing it with conviction.....
