Still has another Strikeforce fight in his contract

Mind you UFC now own Strikeforce, so cant they just tear up the contract?

It seemed to me that Cain got rocked worse by Junior's punch than he did by Kongo's. :conf I wouldn't say that Cain's got a bad chin, looks pretty decent to me. Junior hits like no one else except maybe Hunt.

Anyway, Cain will attract the Mexican audience and maybe some people think he could have done better vs Junior. I don't see it, but I have no problem with Junior solidifying that he has Cain's number. Especially with an even more impressive KO. :yep

Dos Santos is going to beat Cain by brutal KO. Hope Penn still has something left in the tank but might bet a few bob on McD

Also, Penn coming back to face one of the hungriest and most dangerous guys @170 doesn't sound like a good idea. :err

Well, if he gets the 1st round stoppage, this will be a tremendous fight for Penn's legacy.

But if the fight hits the second round, I fear that BJ is going to be **** out of luck.

Apparently BJ plans on testing Rory's cardio. How a guy with notoriously poor cardio is going to accomplish that, I haven't a clue.

He got knocked down by the shot because JDS landed the punch behind his ear.

Had that been on his jaw, he probably wouldn't have went down. But a shot behind the ear can **** up your equlibrium big time.

What Junior did to Carwin, Mir, Big Country - those are beatdowns.

Cain got caught with a temple shot very early in the fight. He wasn't dominated, he just got caught. These are the HWs with tiny gloves. If you eat the wrong shot, you lose. Doesn't mean that Junior is THAT much better than him that Cain has NO CHANCE to succeed in a rematch.

Yes, they can. Same as they can ask Struve, or Lavar, or Pat Barry.

Yes, it's moronic to prefer that somebody challenging for the UFC HW title at least has a relevant win over a contender sometime in the last 5 years. :patsch

    1) Why do you assume that I was in favour of Lesnar getting a title shot based off a win over Heath Herring? Is a win over Kongo SO MUCH BETTER than a win over Herring? :blood

    2) Why do you ***** about Lesnar getting a title shot without beating anyone better than Herring, and then turn around and use it as justification for why Hunt should be propelled into a title shot based off a win against a gatekeeper? :-(

Great, well, Mir went past the 1st round too.

Is that what you want out of a title fight? "Well, this guy will sure soak up a beating anyway."

FACT: That one punch that Junior (the best puncher in MMA) landed is the ONLY blemish on Cain's career. Aside from that one punch, he has won all of his fights in dominant fashion.

FACT: Of his last nine fights, Mark Hunt has lost SIX of them by FIRST ROUND STOPPAGE.

Beat a top-10 contender before you get a title shot. Have a better than 30% win record over your last 10 fights. Are these unreasonable requests when we're talking about challenging for the HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD?

"Brock got his title shot and that was bull****, he was just a physical monster and mainstream superstar who would sell 1 million + PPVs, he hadn't beaten ANYONE! He didn't deserve the opportunity! It was BULL****! Therefore because of that, we should now give the flabby 38 year old nobody with a .500 record a shot based off of him beating a gatekeeper." :patsch

Right, so a 1 punch KO for Junior in the first round. We sure as hell know that Hunt would never lose in the first round, except those six fights in a row. Sure, McCorkle broke his arm in less time than Junior took to beat Cain, but let's pretend that Hunt is some indestructable monster who can't be stopped quickly.

If you've been stopped in six consecutive fights and haven't beaten a legitimate contender since then, you can't be screwed out of a title shot. :bart

Yes. Exactly. Though obviously a legit win for Junior, it was also very unlucky for Cain.

I would go so far as to say that had that shot landed two minutes later, after Cain had thrown and taken a few more shots, he might well have shrugged it off. Takes a while for your body to acclimatize to being in a fight. All the time you see guys getting rocked early in fights, they survive and in round 2 they're walking through much harder shots like it's nothing. :conf

He could've been hit by that shot 10 hours later and he still would've lost his legs and went down.

You don't adjust to being hit in a place like that.
