I find it funny how Haye's detractors say that he hasn't earned any title shots because he hasn't paid his dues at heavyweight. I'd like to know why fighters can move up from other divisions and fight directly for titles without anyone so much as saying a word about it yet Haye catches flack for not fighting other heavyweights and going straight to Vitali.

Haye has already notched 2 wins at heavyweight and though the opposition wasn't that great, it's still more than the fighters who are gifted direct title shots in higher weight classes without "earning" them. Let's just be happy that we have an intriguing heavyweight title fight on the horizon instead of calling into question David Haye's right to be in it.

It's because many of us are fans of Haye and we all know he has a weak jaw...

Him going for a title shot against the hardest HW in the division and losing is not going to do him any good at all...

If he had a few more fights, did well, THEN lost to VK, everyone would no be so critical and put it down to an off day, etc, etc; but as he's gone straight for it and loses everyone will jump on him saying he's not good enough for the division, blah, blah which obviously isn't true!

    It's the Haye hate. :verysad

Think how many great fights we woud have missed out on if no fighter stepped up and was given an immediate title shot.

Agreed. There is allot of hypocrisy on ESB. Why are so called boxing fans so quick to beat up on a guy who only wants to fight the best and give the fans exciting fights????

I though we were all sick of being coned by fighters taking the path of least resistance to a title and defending against bums.

Nobody was crying about Mayweather gettng a crack at De La Hoya's belt last year even though Mayweather had never fought at 154. They were too busy shelling out $55 for that garbage.

Haye is unproven in general. He beat Mormeck in a fight that was very close and then destroyed Maccarinelli whom I an many other hardcore boxing fans had never heard of until he was signed to fight Haye.

Then he moved up. He didn't have a dominant reign or many years of dominance. He had 1 good year in 2007, then moved up in 2008. I dunno. It seems like very little.

However I think Barrett was a pretty good test at HW. Not a title earning test though. Haye should fight a Gomez/Povetkin/Dimitrenko to get a legit shot at the Klits

btw I am not a Haye detractor. On the contrary i think Haye is a very good fighter and when he was at CW I thought he was one of the best fighters in boxing from his performances against Mormeck (which was average but he looked drained) and Maccarinelli (where he looked much more accustomed to the weight and in great shape)

I disagree. Yes there are lots of heavyweight title fights that are undeserved...but that doesn't mean we should just start excusing them. hey this guy got an undeserved shot so why not let this guy.

Im not saying its good for a fighter moving up from any division and instantly getting a title shot, I think it's crap. BUT, in Hayes case it doesnt bother me at all. I mean think about it, Holyfield just had a shot at the WBA title, Rahman just got Wladimir for some reason, and next up is Maskaev again??? WTF, if these guys are getting title shots, than i have no problem with the Hayemaker getting one, or more

If Vitali is actually his next fight I will be surprised and impressed but I bet it becomes another bait & switch by HBO and probably on the order of a Povetkin broken toe

I have no problem with Haye getting a title shot. Only thing thats annoying is people saying Wlad is ducking Haye. I think that statement is way too early and I have no problem with Wlad not caring to fight him yet. Hes still isn't very proven yet but will see what hes worth when he fights Vitali.

Although Haye is unproven, there have been fighters with much less credentials than him given a title shot. Some of these fighters have won the belt, so its just criticism. Haye deserves praise for taking on the best, and not cherry picking an easier champion.

Haye is appealing because he is a very good exciting fighter and his colorful outspoken personality is the best the HWT division has seen since the days of Ali. He deserves a shot at the world title immediately.

Haye is the spark that can light up the whole division and the whole sport. We'll see if he can explode like a volcano or gets his lights put out. From now till then, it will be a load of fun to watch how it all unfolds.

im all for this fight but lets face it, haye's 2 wins at hw r rubbish...but he brings huge hype behind him which will create an enormous buildup to June. It will be an EVENT but the fight itself will be a replay of Vitali-Hide I reckon

Probably because when a jr. middleweight moves up to fight the champ at middleweight he is only putting on 6lbs. of weight gain. He's going from 154lbs. to 160lbs. When a cruiserweight moves up to heavyweight he could be fighting a champion who is 50 or even 60lbs. heavier than himself. Obviously, most fans figure there would need to be quite an adjustment period to get used to carrying and fighting with the big weight gain needed to fight the much bigger men.
