First off im not a calzaghe lover or a Ward hater but ive chosen these two because every 2nd thread seems to concern them. Boxing experts and analaysts views = do they count or not? seems for calzaghe they to be ignored but for Ward we told to listen to them. Wins over Not so good people = For calzaghe they are 100% destroyed but for Ward a fighter like Green is thrown around like a credible win when reality is he is on par with many of the "nobodys" calzaghe beat Styles = Calzaghe has an awkard to watch style and gets called for it, Ward has an awkard to watch style and is praised for it. Lack of KO power = Calzaghe classed as a sissy despite fighting on with hand problems, Ward its never even mentioned that he also looks to hit like a girl Actual record = Finally the hardest to discuss because for betetr or worse calzaghe ended his career with his record, Yet with Ward we are expected to accept he will go on to beat stars and be p4p king ect. Reality is he hasnt beaten them yet so shouldnt we just judge by his current resume?
I don't know what you've been paying attention to, but i see one thread after another with people talking **** about Ward an his style. Another thing, yes, the calibre of opponents that Ward is fighting is about the same as what Calzaghe was fighting the last few years, but it took Calzaghe many years before he finally stepped in with those kind of opponents (for whatever reason), whereas Ward is still young and at a pretty early stage of his career, and he's already fighting and dominating the best his division has to offer. And lastly, i disagree strongly that Ward 'hits like a girl'. No, he's not a knockout artist, but Kessler and Green were certainly feeling those shots. He doesn't lay guys out but his punches are stiff, accurate and stinging.
Both Kessler and Lacy where hurt after fighting Calzaghe aswell. And i meant green was on par with the random fights calzaghe had all along his career not near the end. ,Viet, mitchell, pudwill and more where all on par with green.
excellent post talivar i would advise you not to get involved with the wind up merchants on esb, simply put them on your ignore list. if you want intelligent debate and people to call it like it is then you should check out the posts of myself, 46and0, anglosaxon, bailey, and rico spadafora. we call a spade a spade and do not get brainwashed by hbo and ring magazine. we see through the hypejobs and can spot a china chin before it has even been hatched. keep your eyes on chad dawson against pascal :deal
I know what you mean Taliver Allan Green is about the same level as Kabary Salem, and yes, I am serious
First, because most of your evidence for a double standard isn't even true. Second, Ward's prime career is really just getting started. Third, there aren't threads started on this board claiming Ward is the best super middle weight, and in one case, p4p fighter to ever live.
Ive seen threads where people say he beats Calzaghe, one where he compared to prime RJJ and couple people even say he wins, one where people give him good chance vs prime Hopkins, one where he beats chad dawson, one where he beats ottke, threads where he is classed as the future king of 168 ect ect
Because your claims are bogus. You only seem to see what you want to see. Fans do this all the time. There are a bunch of Ward fans who will swear to you that Ward is underappreciated and hated on too much. There are other boxing fans who claim Calzaghe is vastly overrated and gets way too much credit. Nodody seems to be able to look at the big picture and come up with an objective opinion about how a fighter is viewed as a whole.
He probably will be the future king of 168. And picking him to beat Chad Dawson and Sven Ottke is not exactly calling him p4p No. 1 or an ATG. And almost everyone on the Ward-Hopkins thread says a prime Hopkins beats him easily. But alas, some people just need to be offended, so go ahead with your theory.
Well let me enlighten you. Joe Calzaghe made 10's of millions of dollars in this sport despite padding his record for most his career. Fans would show up in the 10's of thousands to attend his fights despite the fact that he never liked going to any functions or doing anything outside of the ring to show his appreciation for the fans. Did you know Calzaghe's fight against Hopkins had a live gate of over $14M? That's one of the largest live gates in U.S boxng history. U.S networks shelled out millions to put on his fights and Ring Magazine had him ranked as high as no.2 on their p4p rankings. So Calzaghe has collected a fortune and experienced a ton of support and admiration from fans, networks, and boxing publications all over the world. If you're truly seeing the big picture, then why are you upset that Ward is getting a little bit of love after yet another good win? People giving Ward some props is in no way a slight to Calzage. Your claims are ridiculous to say the least.
Im not upset i personally think Ward will go onto to be massive. I just dont like discussing things in threads with people who say the opposite when it comes to other fighters. Calzaghe and Ward where just two most obvious choices for thread but it counts for any of them really. Why are so many people so blinkered that they fogive their fave fighters for things they accuse other fighters of. If you get my drift.
