Margarito asked for the WBO to force an immediate rematch due to the "corrupt judges" but was turned down by the sanctioning body. The key point there is that he explicitly did not want to fight on a Dan Goossen card for fear of being "robbed" again, and of course, if the WBO forced one, his promoter could win the purse bid and force Williams (the champion) to fight in his home town again. Of course none of this establishes that a rematch was ever formally negotiated for or turned down during that time period. Again, every quote from Top Rank during this time expressing disinterest in the rematch is filled with whining about working with Haymon and Williams/Pavlik negotiations, and says nothing about being turned down previously.
:huh Ok.... You realize your first sentence pretty much is all that needed to be said about this, as many here are saying margarito did not want a rematch.
Build a time machine and go back 5 years. Sorry, I was actually paying attention to the sport then. I don't need sources, and I have no reason to make up lies.
It fails to establish that Williams didn't want one or turned one down which is what you and others have asserted.
what a joke. funny how everyone has called you out on your bull**** but you stick your head in the sand instead
I said that? Or did I say Williams moved on, as was his right to do so. Look, I'm not one of those posters who act as if every close fight deserves a rematch. Williams and Margarito fought, Williams won, and moved on. Simple as that.
Yes, it is a joke how you 'johnny-come-latelys' act as if there's a source for everything. Don't be so naive! If you weren't around at this time, then that's just your bad. I'm not going to search for a source just so some noob can dimiss it for whatver reason they desire. What exactly is your position on this? that margarito did not want a rematch?
"Moving on" usually carries with it the connotation of disinterest. I still haven't seen anything to indicate this is what the Williams camp specifically did in response to Margarito's (conditional and qualified) desire for a rematch, much less anything formal or real. Likewise, there's still no evidence that this theoretical disinterest/rejection is why Top Rank expressed no interest in the fight in 2008. And I mean Jesus Lance, this occurred within the last 6 years. The internet and boxing sites specifically existed back then. It's not like someone is someone is asking you to consult microfilm or visit an archival library when requesting support or evidence for your claims.
atsch FFS dude... you realize you're making a big deal outta what is essentially nothing? You, like too many here, over analyze too much. What exactly is your position on this anyway? :huh
I don't get what some of these guys are even arguing about!! I never said Williams ducked a rematch, so that's not it. Williams was under no real obligation to give a rematch. Sometimes guys win close fights and move on. Nothing wrong withthat. And for some to continue to say Margarito didn't want a rematch is equally assinine. atsch ****in johnny-come-lately's man....gotta explain TOO much, and it's really not worth the time or effort.
My position is that there's plenty of evidence Margarito or Top Rank were not interested in a rematch in 2008 when they instead elected to take on the older and less well-regarded at that time Mosley, but there's nowhere near an equivalent amount of evidence to make that claim about Williams and Goossen in 2007. There's likewise no indication that the reason for the rematch not occurring in 2008 was specifically because Margarito or Top Rank were turned down in 2007.
Total over analyzation dude. Like you're trying too hard to prove something one way or another. I'm well aware TR wasn't in a rush to face Williams again after the Cotto bout, as I've already stated. As for the rest of your post, there's really nothing more to say. feel free to over analyze this all you want. It's a little silly the depths you go to prove a point that really isn't anything big.
margarito would've accepted the rematch if he wanted to avenge his loss that badly. instead he tried to pick on a beat up mosley
