1st rd is a 10:8 in favor of Jones due 2 only d ropes holding Ali up when Jones staggered him .
It is (called) a technical KD .

Calling d fight as a fight Jones won it , but even if going b d anal (no disrespect) 10pt must system , Play did not win d fight .

New York did it by rounds Frank. No 10pt must.

NY scoring used to drive my Dad nuts. This is indeed true: KD just got you the round, counted the same as winning the next round by the skin of your teeth.

    Correct.......Mr. MagnaNasakki.

Doug Jones, also should have been awarded a knockdown in Round 1.

New York, scored by rounds, but also gave the scoring officials the option of using the 'supplemental points system'
in the event that they needed to 'screw up' the decision even more.

Angelo Dundee 'consoling' a 'dejected' Cassius Clay, after he just got his
'behind' smacked again, in another round by Doug Jones.

William Faversham Jr. (Owner of Cassius Clay) who was at ringside, was
overheard saying 'Don't worry Angie, just get the kid through 10-Rounds,
and we'll get out of here O.K.'

The young Clay won this fight pretty clearly, but he was indeed given hell.

    Great learning experience.

And therein lies the basic truth; I've seen the fight, Jones landed, countered and made a good effort, but the young Cassius, moving into one of his pre-title tough efforts, did not lose this fight. Plain and simple.

'Cassius Clay Exposed As A Fraud'

There wasn't a soul in Madison Square Garden that didn't think that last night's fight
wasn't a fix. After Doug Jones landed a 'dizzying' right hand that would have knocked
Cassius Clay out of the ring, except for the rope strands, the 18,732 in attendance
    knew something was up.'

Clay who had predicted a 4th Round Knockout, then changed to a 6th Round Knockout,
was roundly boo'd after the 6th Round, and took a good shellacking in the 7th Round,
in which Doug Jones made him look like an amateur.'

After 7-Rounds, Doug Jones was ahead on both judges scorecards. Referee - Joe LoScalzo
who was in the ring for his biggest fight, seemed not only lost in the ring, but also on his
scorecard tally where he 'blindly' had Clay ahead after 7-Rounds.'

Alex Koskowitz, Manager of New York Heavyweight - Doug Jones

'Cassius Clay looked like an amateur in the ring with my fighter. Doug had to tell
Clay to "stay and fight man, don't run like a chicken'.

'I saw Bill Faversham, and he even said Doug won the fight, and that his fighter
    needs more seasoning.'

'I said let's do it again next month, but he said he was taking his boy to Europe,
with hopes of fighting former-Champion Ingemar Johannson. He did say, that when
he gets back, he will put Clay back in the ring with Doug.'

I can see someone scoring the fight for Jones on aggression and not understanding Clay's style. He came forward all night, but the thing is Jones took way more punches. Clay probably threw and out landed him two to one.

Jones' biggest round was round 8 when he landed three powerful bombs in the final minute, but he never dominated a whole round for three minutes the way that Clay does in the 9th. Jones' landed the harder shots but Clay landed more and did slightly more damage to his opponent overall.

If you score the first round 10-8 for Jones and call Clay going into the ropes a knockdown, despite the ref not calling it one, and then give the second round to Jones instead of scoring it even, the fight still goes to Clay by a point. But let's be clear, there are knockdowns and there are knockdowns. This wasn't the most devastating thing I've ever seen.

The only other thing that could have gone in Jones' favor is that I heard the commentator saying that Clay looked more tired than Jones in the fourth round. So even though Clay was doing a lot more punching there and exerting himself while Jones took a breather playing defense, I guess you could give that round to Jones too if you are of such a mind, because he looked in better condition. But by the end of the fight both fighters looked equally gassed and neither looked fresh.

There were no cuts, swelling, or bruising to score, so if you score for Jones it's probably because you liked his style more.

    6 Clay, 3 Jones, 1 Even

    OvidsExile,,,,,,,

Based upon the 'two' judges scorecards, (not the blind referee).

    Doug Jones took Round 1.
Cassius Clay took Rounds 2 and 3.
    Doug Jones took Round 4.

After 7-Rounds, Doug Jones was ahead on the 'two' judges scorecards.

Round 8, appears to be the 'key' round in the bout.
