The Jones who arguably beat a young Ali vs the Spinks who beat Holmes?

Thats the rumor. Just recently scored that fight and saw Ali win almost every round.

Jones landed several decent punches over the fight but didn't win the rounds.

Not an obvious domination while watching, but a domination on the cards.

Spinks a bit more refined and more of a master of his own style.

    Spinks wins a decision probably.

Mike Spinks easily the better all round fighter but maybe not one of his easiest fight s .It goes the distance but Jones enjoys a little success at catching his opposition several times .Spinks by decision in a tougher fight than envisaged.

Here is the Doug Jones vs Eddie Machen fight.
(Note: Jones was 188 lbs for Cassius Clay in early 1963.)

1961-12-02 : Eddie Machen 197½ lbs beat Doug Jones 184¾ lbs by UD in round 10 of 10
    Notes
    • Jones was originally scheduled to fight Harold Johnson on this date for the National Boxing Association Light Heavyweight Championship, but Johnson withdrew from the bout on November 13 due to an injured big toe on his right foot. Machen stepped in as a substitute for Johnson.
    • The Associated Press scored the fight 100-95 for Machen.
    From the Associated Press:

Eddie Machen, the No. 2 ranked heavyweight contender, was a little too big, too strong and too experienced for Doug Jones, the No. 1 light heavyweight contender. In chalking up his 40th victory against four defeats and a draw, Machen started fast. He connected with several good punches in the second round and staggered Jones with a fast combination. Machen seemed to slow up a bit in the early rounds and the crowd of 4,620, which paid a gross gate of $13,129, booed occasionally. They waded into each other enthusiastically in the seventh round, with Machen nailing Jones with two good right hand blows to the jaw just before the bell. The action was fast for the remaining three rounds and when the fight ended, both fighters were bleeding from cuts, Machen under his right eye and Jones over his left one
