What I like about Australian boxing atm is the young talent coming through.

My 10 best prospects in Australian boxing are listed below (noting that I've only been back following the sport since December last year).

Anyone with 20 wins or more doesn't get a guernsey.

    Fab4:

    1. Damien "Super" Hooper 13-1(8) - Hoping to see the best Aboriginal boxer in the country on the Horndog undercard. Here's hoping he doesn't get shafted by Foxtel again. Was once the second rated amateur light heavy in the world so he's got some talent. Needs to focus on belting guys inside the ring, not outside of it.

    2. "Fly Guy" Jai Opetaia 13-0(10) - Dispatched a fellow unbeaten prospect inside of a round recently. Also qualified for the London Olympics as a 16 year old. If that isn't talent, I don't know what is.

    3. Tim "The Toolman" Tszyu 7-0(5) - Moved to the next level following his recent win. Really looking forward to seeing him fight other guys at that level and watching him progress. The jury is out on how far he can go. I think he can go big.

    4. "Diamond" Dave Toussaint 12-0(8) - Some good wins lately mean there's a reason to pay attention to Canberra for something other than politics. Has good physical strength, punching power & skills. Plus he's an awkward southpaw. That makes him tough for anyone.

    Best of the rest:

    5. George Kambosos Jr 13-0(7) - I really like this guy's attitude. He's someone you know is going to get the best out himself b/c of it. May not have the physical strength & punching power needed to go all the way but he's got decent hand speed & skills. If determination counts for anything, he'll get there.

    6. Kris George 13-1(7) - Cth Welter champ. I liked what I saw of this guy against Brubaker. His punches were sharp & crisp. Every time Brubaker tried to accelerate the pace, George would clip him with a decent shot. I get that the official scorecards (plus others) had Brubaker ahead in the fight. Personally, I was more impressed with George.

    7. Andrew Maloney 15-0(10) - Newly crowned Cth champ. I'm yet to see him fight.

    8. TJ Doherty 17-0(13) - Another guy who looks good on paper but who I haven't seen fight.

    9. Jason Maloney 15-0(12) - Saw him score a first round job last start. What impressed me about it was that his opponent looked like he could hold his hands up but still got flattened.

    10. Anthony Buttigieg 13-0(3) - Cth Light Middle champ. A bundle of energy this guy. There's plenty of good domestic talent in this weight division so let's hope the title stays in Australia for a while.

G,day JW I agree it was a disgraceful stoppage. I don't think Takam had much of a chance to win the fight(but I thought that going into the last round of Taylor-Froch)but would have been the first to hear the final bell against AJ. This was a hometown stoppage IMO to keep AJ's 100% KO streak alive. On a side note I don't really like women's boxing but thought Taylor vs Sanchez was the fight of the night.,

Sandman I'm well aware of the " better a moment too soon than a moment too late " adage but what disgusted me with the stoppage was the fella was fighting probably the best active heavyweight on the planet at this moment in time and was clear headed enough to know when / if he should give it away himself instead of that fat Mo Fo Edwards take that decision out of his hands , for decades we have been treated to last minute shocks and upsets that's what makes the sport for me . Ain't saying I think the upset was on the cards but we will never know for sure now mate .

Stiffs , How's it going , Pecks doing ok mate ? Yea we've seen late stoppages in the past and your mention of Taylor v Froch is yet another fine example ( one of my personal favourites is Chavez v another Taylor in Meldrick.) But you're right about the hometown stoppage to maintain the100% stoppage buzz about AJ something Hearn will be happy about after such a dire card .

If it wasn't a world title fight I believe the Takam stoppage would of been fine but I think at the highest level the fighters should be given any benefit of the doubt on there ability to continue

Exactly what if they stopper Foreman-Moorer because big George was losing every round and was rocked a few times. Look at what happened then.
