I was just replying I lost at the bookies - had Kov by decision at $7 - but made a few at the pub in sidebets that Ward would get liked and snatch the chocolate.

Farkin pub erupted at the result - not happy. Our Russian mate in the bar said tvoyu mat was the verdict.

Kovaev faded a bit late in the fight but banked enough rounds early to win. Hope his management at least had enough sense to get a rematch clause.

That's how I had it going. Was getting pissed at Kov dropping his hands - Ward got him enough on that late IMO to fluff the score with the judges.

I had Kov up by two points though - apparently I haven't adjusted to the blinding desert sun and can't add up according to Las Vegas specialists.

I had ward winning this, there were heaps of close rounds so I would not have been outraged had kov won. Imo ward won round 2 (or 3) then basically dragged kov into his world from round 5 on. Kov was great going forward early and was even winning the clinch battles, but ward adjusted began dominating the clinches and had kov fighting off the back foot which he wasn't successful at.
Ward arguably should of been deducted a point for his take down attempts. Either way it wasn't a pretty fight but it was close and suspenseful.
I would like to see kov fight Stevenson next and winner gets ward, I know it sounds odd but at least this way Stevenson gets the poo beat out of him as oppose to just loosing a fight to ward.

I watched Ward-Kov and my thoughts are -

    * A fairly good fight between two of the best boxers in the world. Imo wasn't as AMAZING as the HBO commentary would have you think.

    * I didn't score the fight rd by rd (just watched it) and thought by the end it was very close and could have gone to either guy. If anyone is saying "robbery' then they dtsab.

    * The first half of the fight was Kovalov's / Ward seemed to take over and was the better fighter imo from the middle rds onwards.

    * Many close rds that really could have gone either way thus many people having differing views.

    * I thought throughout the hbo broadcast that Ledermans card seemed way off.

    * Both fighters are top class boxers without a doubt.

    Kind regards,
    Francis

Kellerman said Lederman had it wide for Kovalev what did he have it? The colonel and Dave Bontempo had it 115-113 for Kovalev. I think Ward wins the rematch as he won the 2nd half of the fight 4-2(he had figured Kov out and adjusted to fighting a top quality fighter again).

Haven't seen the fight as yet mate, did you think in those early rds that Ward was a gone? and do you think his inactivity has cost him since the super6 where he dominated the best SMW at the time?

Yeah Kel Wards inactivity and ordinary opposition the last 3 yrs or so has probably cost him both as a boxer and his bank account.

Did they score some even rds because you can't have a 115-113 when there was a knockdown ?

Yeah they sometimes score a round 10-10 if they can't split them.

Excellent insight as usual. I scored the fight just like the judges 114-113 to Ward.
Also agree with Stifler that when the rematch happens Ward will win more convincingly as I believe he has figured Kovalev out. It was a great fight between two of the best in the world.

That's why the colonel is an idiot, he does not know how to score a fight, you do not score even rounds. I remember the fat idiot had Donaire beating Rigo on his card some years ago, he has had some shockers.
