I was talking today with a guy who is a soccer fan and i was telling him all the things i hate about it.. one of my arguing points was the 'draws'..

Then i got to thinking about draws in boxing... should they do away with them? maybe go extra rounds or something... maybe go by the compubox stats... to determine the winner... cuz to be honest... i hate draws... there should always be a winner..

i somehow like the idea one more extra round. but just one more. There's a reason why they reduced it from 15(correct me if im wrong) to 12rounds.The compubox idea, i think it will spark more contreversy and dispute than decision. on second thought, they'll make it a business again so they'll stick with the draw.fighters draw, promoters win, fans lose.

I would go with an extra "sudden death" round. All or nothing. I hate draws, I feel all uncomfortable for some reason when there is a draw. Like, the John-Juarez fight when it was announced a draw I kind of felt uncomfortable for some reason because there wasn't a winner.

The only problem i see with goin only 'one' extra round is sometimes a round can be a draw as well.... although that will be the rare result.. in that case maybe then you go to the punch stats....

They used to have extra rounds for the USBA titles in the 80s in the cases of draws.

Isn't the reason they came down from 15 rounds to 12 because studies showed that in rounds 13,14,15 boxers were more susceptible to brain injury?

If so imagine 2 guys in that 13th round going hell for leather, not sure it would pan out.

In some circumstances there's nothing wrong with a draw , 2 guys that give their all for 12 rounds and are equal, it would be cruel to have a 13th round where one guy might edge it by1-2 good punches.

It's the scoring system I have more of a problem with.

I'm for it! think how many fights over the years we've been left with NO result, I don't like the compubox though lets go with a sudden death round!

The official reason was fighter safety after Mancini-Kim, but more than a few fans believe it was really for other reasons.

Boxing was on network TV back then in the states, and it's much easier to fit 12 rounds including the intros and post-fight interviews in an hour than a 15 rounder.

Just like there are those that the money lost on the aborted Spinks-Muhammad rematch, when Eddie failed to make weight, had more of an effect on the weigh-in procedure being changed than fighter safety after Kim died.

Draws are here to stay. Whether you add a 13th round (or go the old route of 15 for that matter) or not, there is no way to eliminate the possibility of a draw when you take into account how knockdowns and point deductions factor into the scoring process. Just be happy you're not one of the guys who just went tooth and nail for 12 rounds only to come away without a definitive ending. Wanna know how a draw can change the course of a guy's career? Ask Mike Weaver who went 15 hard rounds with Michael Dokes in the searing Las Vegas heat in 1983 only to come away with a draw in a fight that many felt he deserved to win. Weaver was never the same afterwards and he pretty much admit that he was just going through the motions in every fight after that. He left it all in the ring that day and came away with an empty draw.

I think the problem is most of the time there has to be a winner. I think there should be more draws which would lead to more rematches, or at least should lead to more rematches.

I have no problem with draws. Why does there always have to be a winner? A fight can be a draw you know(literally very even fight).

No prob with draws here there's lots of fight's that people feel should have been draws, where the more popular fighter gets the nod.
